A Private Boys is a down somewhat this Fall, individually and in team strength, which will make for an interesting first race of the day at 7:45am.

Landmark Christian is definitely the favorite to sweep the Team Titles. At last year's Region Championship, the weather was insane...
Here are your HS Boys ROWs by Class for Week Ending 10-25. Region Madness ROWS next week!
Only 1125 runners participated at the annual Last Chance meet at the 'State Course' Saturday. Very few ranked larger school teams ran their varsities or came at all, with those in attendance taking advantage all around, giving their JVs a chance to test out the layout. In 2 weeks though, this venue will be electric..can you feel it?
This week's Rankings extended thru 10-20 taking into account Clarke Oconee Championships as Athens Academy moves into 4th. Galloway ran well at Coach Wood moving to 5th. OLM did well @ Coach Wood breaking into the top 10 at 8th. All teams designated 11th are in no particular order. Many teams will be at Last Chance including Landmark Christian, Athens Academy, Paideia, Galloway, OLM, FPD, North Cobb Christian and Whitefield Academy. It would be great if they ran in the same race...
Word going around is Landmark Christian is close to being healthy again...Athens Academy seems to have found their #5 at Clarke Oconee...
Many new Team/Individual State Champions were annointed in perfect conditions for Cross Country down in Bleckley County Saturday morning.
There wasn't much movement in 1A Private girls this past week. Hebron remains #1 after Furman. If Landmark Christian can get healthy by Region/State things could flip..Athens Academy remains 3rd as they beat PCA several weeks ago heads up. Mount Paran, Walker and Athens Christian all moved up.
An extremely active week for 1A Private Boys teams with Asics and Hebron Lions Showcase. Landmark Christian is the team to beat, though working thru some minor injuries. PCA moves ahead of Hebron after their Asics performance. Athens Academy moves into 5th after Furman and Whitefield shoots into 7th after running well at Asics.
Weather looked to be an issue coming into this meet late Friday, but, after the course got a good soakin' overnight, it seemed to drain quite well by the early 'dark' start of the Championship Boys race. A thick blanket of mist enveloped the fields at first, but, as the morning progressed, it steadily rose up to reveal the beautiful, flat course ahead.
With 12 of the top 20 1A Private Girls Teams OFF - The decision was made for the rankings to NOT be changed this week. However, watch for movement following this upcoming Saturday! If we don't get flooded again as is the current forecast..Landmark Christian needs to get healthy by Region/State.
Most of the top 10 was off last week except #1 Landmark Christian who won the Strong Rock meet. Hebron Christian travelled to Jesse Owens and placed 4th in the Small School race (17:36) with Mark 'Franken' Stein winning the Overall title. North Cobb Christian also trekked to Jesse Owens, but competed in a large school race fairing well with a 18:22 team avg.
Some great performances from the Boys 'ROWs' including 6A's Andrew Kent of Lakeside DK and from 5A, the 'Branch's' Jake Shewbert .
Hebron Christian moves into #1, they travel to the Jesse Owens Invite in Alabama this weekend. Landmark Christian drops to 2nd. Atlanta International, Mount Paran, Galloway and Paideia all moved up.
Landmark Christian held serve this past weekend placing a very respectable 8th at the Wingfoot Classic. Hebron Christian was OFF as well as Providence and Athens Academy. Paideia's top 2 horses were led 'off course' @ Aubrae Gunderson and will not be punished for course management's miscue. North Cobb Christian and Tallulah Falls continue to ascend higher this week. AIS ran well @ Wingfoot.
It was a fun filled wet morning for the runners at the Atlanta Classic. Some very competitive racing occurred despite conditions which slowed the course. Whitewater and North Oconee took it to the wire in the Varsity Boys race and Huntsville (one of Alabama's best Girls squads) took it out on Georgia teams winning by 34 over Westminster. Our young GaMileSplit crew hung tough, shooting race footage and stills all morning!

23 teams will line it up Saturday morning at Clinton Nature Preserve for the 2015 Atlanta Classic. The mostly single-loop 5,000 meter course will feature 3 hay bale jumps and an exciting 300 meter spectator-friendly finish.
Hebron Christian closed the gap considerably on Landmark after a great 6th at Gwinnett County, and in a race with 150 or more competitive runners it could be a toss up. Kathryn Foreman of Landmark has now not raced for 2 weekends... PCA ran well at Gwinnett but remains 4th as Athens Academy beat them heads up a couple weeks back. A real shakup from 5-7 as Warpath brought out the best in Walker, Fellowship Christian and Mount Paran.
Landmark Christian remains #1 after a strong showing at Fulton County placing 7th. Hebron Christian and Providence Christian ran well at Gwinnett. Paideia drops another spot to 4th. North Cobb Christian, Whitefield and Fellowship Christian were 22nd, 24th and 25th at Warpath
Milton teams win 5 of 6 team races to capture Best Overall Program as a new course record is set at the Fulton County Schools Cross Country Championships at Milton HS.
Landmark Christian may drop out of #1 if they fail to mount a team score for this weekend..as Hebron ran well at Carrollton going 22:10. Athens Academy solidified their #3 spot after a 3rd place in Winder. Atlanta International (AIS) shoots up the board to after a 23:28 @ Furman. Paideia, Savannah Christian were off.
No real drastic movement in A Private Boys from last week. Landmark continues whipping other competitive squads. Providence moves past Athens Academy to 4th after their Ortho race. North Cobb Christian had a better race at Double Dip cracking the top 10.
Over 1400 runners gathered at the State Course on Saturday having great mid-September racing conditions in very uncrowded race situations for this venue. (excluding Championship Boys) Anticipation was high for those races with many top squads and Indivduals competing.Brief ReCap (more coming Monday)
Finally, it was too close to call for All-Class Girls 'ROW' and given that, Nicole Fegans of Landmark Christian and Mary Claire Solomon from Blessed Trinity have been named "Co-Runners of the Week" Colton Page of Allatoona
Here are the 2nd set of 'Runners of the Week' selections from Ga.MileSplit.com and your vigilant 'Rankings Commitee' We do attempt to select a different runner at least for 3 weeks before repeating a choice to recognize more
Like in the pre-season outlook, after 3 weeks of competition this Class is wide open for the top positions. Landmark currently has the best team having defeated Paideia which got off to a slow start not having a team score at Saucony Battle of Atlanta, but bounced back a bit at at&t Panther. Hebron Christian should improve throughout the Fall. Athens Academy whipped PCA on the tough Spartan course. 3 unranked pre-season squads broke into the top 10 including a spirited Tallulah Falls squad, Our Lady of Mercy who is happy to have Coach Hofkes back at the helm and Mount Paran Christian who was right behing OLM at at&t Panther.
1A Private Girls may be a great showdown by State. Landmark has 3 of the top 6 Girls in their Class, but Hebron Christian is stronger from 1-5. If Athens Academy develps a #5 its anybody's guess what will happen in November. Providence Christian seems to have a nice gap between the next few teams at this point early. Fellowship Christian could make it out of region as a team this season...
The Middle School races at the at&t Panther Invitational were very competive. Zack Truitt of Landmark and Nyah Hernandez won the Individual races while Strong Rock Boys and Lovinggood MS Girls took the Team titles.
The at&t Starrs Mill Panther Invite was full of fast times on the beautiful Heritage Christian Church course. (All pics by Dan McCauley)

This year’s line-up for the 4th annual AT&T Starr’s Mill Panther XC Invitational looks even deeper than last year’s event and bigger. With 54 teams and 1800 athletes across high school and middle school athletes on the beautiful rolling grass fields and trail of Heritage, it will be an awesome day for running.
We begin selecting Middle School 'Runners of the Week' after this past weekend of racing and for week ending 8/30 its Zack Truitt from Landmark Christian.
1A Private has its share of fleet harriers again this season as Nicole Fegans and Sam Shaylor were selected as 'Runners of the Week' after impressive performances.
Incredible day of racing at the 2015 Saucony Battle of Atlanta as over 2900 runners tackled the pristine Nash Farms Battlefield course. Great conditions for a race in late August as it was cloudy with some breezes! A Civil War re-enactor in full regalia started every race with an authentic period Musket which made quite a boom!
The Varsity Girls race at Saucony Battle of Atlanta should be a 'wing dinger' as well with its most competitive field ever. The has grown from 22 Teams in 2008 to 76 Squads this season and has evolved into one of the premiere HS/MS meets in the State. The Nash Farms course is a 2.5 loop 95% grass course. Most consider the course moderate in difficulty and it is the most spectator friendly course in Georgia. Spectators are able to see over 90% of each race.
Here are the All-Class Boys Pre-Season Team Rankings for the Fall season. Also, rewatch the 2014 6A Girls Race Video ! Insiders get to watch the 4A Race too!
1A Private Boys Team:Much like the 1A Private Boys Individuals, this class currently does not a have a dominant squad coming into the opening weekend of big Invitationals. Defending champ Hebron Christian lost their big guns, Galloway lost Reilly Friedman (1 huge point), Athens Academy lost their top 2 (including Jihoon Choi) Landmark Christian seems to be the favorite going into the season with their top 6 coming back. Galloway and Providence Christian should be Podium and possible title contenders by November, and after a great Outdoor Track season in which their distance squad scored 34 points, Paideia cannot be discounted. After these 4 squads, it gets a little stretched out between each school on paper with Whitefield, Athens Academy, Athens Christian and Hebron Christian jockeying for position.
The Landmark Christian girls will be a force unlike any other in 1A Private. Coach Bill Thorn's Eagles are primed to make it four 1A Private titles in the last five seasons.
1A Private Boys is going to be absolutely wide open this Fall as the top 6 finishers from State have moved on to the next level. However, from 7-20 there are 11 underclassmen that are will be battling for supremacy, including a few who had great Outdoor seasons that will be in/near that front pack with good training. Five athletes with sub 17: prs returning are Will Martin from First Presbyterian Day (also top underclassman at State) Griffin McCauley and Max Heaberlin from Paideia who had good Summer Camps at Nike, Sam Shaylor (All State XC) from North Cobb Christian and Sammy Clough of Providence Christian. Jihoon Choi of Athens Academy had a strong Outdoor season and placed 8th at XC State.
1A Private Girls may be one of the fastest Classes up top this Fall. 17 of the top 20 Girls are set to return with Shannon Fair the sole departed senior out of the top 10 at the State meet in 2014. There will be incredible competition featuring defending State Champ Emma Grace Hurley of Fellowship Christian, former Foot Locker finalist Sr. Kathryn Foreman of Landmark Christian, Nicole Fegans also of Landmark who was runnerup at State (and rumor has may be the girl to beat this season...Lest we forget Anna Marion Block of Athens Academy who as a frosh dominated the 800/1600 during Outdoor Track and took a strong 3rd at XC State in 2014. Others sure to be frontrunners are sophs Sarah Foreman of Landmark and Sydney Hendricks of Providence Christian. Coming back after sitting her Frosh season is Sophia West from Paideia who was 2nd at MS State in 2013 and has a pr of 11:13 (3200) 5:11 (1600)
ACS was dominant, but not all of the 1A Pvt Highlights came from ACS, as Demitrus Robertson of Savannah Christian put on a show in the 100/200 and Robby Keough from Whitefield defended his 800 Meter title going 1:53.81
Here is your 1-A Private Boys Georgia Olympics Preview. They will be no prelims as every event is a Finals. earlier in the season it was a toss up between perennial power Athens Christian and suddenly very competitive First Presbyterian Day (FPD)
It was a race for the ages as Anna Marian Block turned it on the final 800 and set a new Class A State Meet record in the Girls 1600 Meters besting 3200 Champ Emma Grace Hurley going 4:51.68.
In one of the most anticipated 3200 races in recent history, Emma Grace Hurley proved she was the best in 1-A Private winning going away at 10:38.
Many A Private schools will be in contention for a coveted team state title and Podium spots at Hugh Mills Stadium in 3 days. Sectionals over at Landmark were virtually a rehearsal for the big dance without the 1600 and 3200 being contested. Our Lady of Mercy is the pre-meet favorite going in...but the 1600 and 3200 races are going to be something special...
Here is what most of you have been waiting for, the 1A Sectionals Meet Programs or 'heat sheets' as you may refer to them. Open the links (public and private) inside the body of the article with adobe reader.
Here are your modified 1A Private Girls Team Power Rankings. Its going to be a dogfight between Region 5 Rivals OLM and Landmark Christian with Athens Academy, ELCA, Walker in the mix for Podium Cups.
Mother Nature gave Old Man Winter a nudge Saturday, letting him know his days are numbered. The opening meet of the 2015 season at Landmark Christian was hugely popular, with the maximum number of schools participating. Although a steady headwind down the finishing straightaway made conditions challenging, this did not deter very enthusiastic competition.
1A Private Girls was a race that had set Individual contenders that were some of the fastest ladies All-State. Emma Grace Hurley has been defeated by no one, including a victory over Top Performer of the day Morgan Ilse and Lindsay Billings at Warpath mid-September. Not to mention Kathryn Foreman would be starting, though running thru pain at Region 5. Landmark Christian has been the team to beat in this class although at times being a bit inconsistent on the bottom end. Athens Academy showed signs of being a contender thru October if Landmark faltered, but a couple of squads had something to say about that in the final really competitive meet of the day. Have no fear, Hurley took off and never looked back and Landmark ran like days of past in the first decade and before. Here's a shout to Atlanta International's Helen Williams to get well and hopefully return this Outdoor Track season!
A Private Girls recently have become very competitive with so many fast girls including a Foot Locker National Finalist in Kathryn Foreman and 2014's 2nd fastest female Emma Grace Hurley of Fellowship Christian who beat 6A Northview's Lindsay Billings several weeks ago. Landmark Christian a month ago looked unbeatable having a healthy top 5. But Athens Academy has closed the gap considerably this month showing signs they could give Landmark fits if they are missing 1 of their top 5. Pictured is Hurly leading a few of Georgia's best including Morgan Ilse of Marist and Savannah Carnahan from South Forsyth.
The Class A Private Boys race has one definitive fact about it: What time will Reilly Friedman post and will it be good enough in the last competitive boys race of the day to win the Best Performance award? His team, the Scots of Galloway are in contention for the state title vs a hungry Hebron Christian Lions squad. A Private boys are a little weaker overall with Darlington, Holy Innocents and Pace moving up to 2A and those teams are all in contention in the AA races Saturday.
Galloway Boys were very impressive at Region in frigid windy conditions. Hebron Christian was too in the Area 2 meet as these squads should provide some exciting racing late Saturday afternoon. Paideia was a strong 3rd at region without their 2 and 4. Landmark Christian was back at full strength at the 5-A meet but Kathryn Foreman was reported to be in pain after the race. Athens Academy's girls beat Hebron and Providence at Region. George Walton pulled the shocker in 8-A beating ACS out for 4th teamwise. Its still a slight mystery what transpired at Region 6-A except for some Discussion Board posts, which had 2 top 1-A Private athletes compete in with Emma Grace Hurley and Robby Keough...
I was there at 8am watching the wind gusts nearly blow over the finish line frameposts and destroy a couple of team canopies across the street as mother nature was rearing its ugly head, making conditions nearly miserable unless one had spent winters up north. Galloway's boys shone placing 5 runners in the top eight, posting an impressive 24 points to win the Region 5-A / Area 3 Championship., and Landmark's gals easily secured the team title as Kathryn Foreman won the Overall title...
It was a long day of racing and perhaps a few tempo runs at Carrollton Last Chance as evidenced by a few of the top athletes competing. Nineteen 1A & 2A schools were registered for the early and chilly 8:00am Boys start. However, only nine started with the others opting to run in later races. Galloway Boys proved they are title contenders beating several ranked squads. Friedman strolled to 1st in 16:47. Landmark's Girls (sans Kathryn Foreman who is nursing an injury) won the Girls race with Nicole Fegans and Sarah Foreman taking 1st and 2nd.
Hebron Christian's Boys remained #1 after their showing at Coach Wood in the Varsity Gold race. Landmark and Athens Academy's boys both moved up. Landmark's girls stayed at #1, Galloway, Mount Pisgah, and Mount DeSales moved up. Walker's girls shot up to 7th....
The MS State Cross Country Championships ended a great year of racing and those runners who brought it on the biggest stage for Middle School runners have been selected as 'Runners of the Year' Also 10 athletes were selected as Honorable Mention. Improvement from the 2013 season and MS State performance weighed heavily. Selected Boys ROW is Dawson Frey from Oglethorpe MS for the MS Boys.
One couldn’t have asked for a nicer day down in Cochran as 9 races were contested as 6 State team champs were crowned. The Bleckley County crew as usual did a fantastic job putting on the meet and every race ran ontime. The competition was intense in every race and the fans seemed to really enjoy the meet atmosphere. He course was in excellent shape and definitely not a pancake and a true 2 Mile. The ‘Broom’ was in action today as Marist once again, after competing in very few meets that turn in results swept the Large School races as usual…Holy Innocents duplicated that feat in the Medium School races. The top performers of the day were Haley Hooper from Lovett as she crushed the field in the ‘medium school race’ going 12:04 and James Williams of Walton Youth Track was the boys top gun at 11:28 Pics Coming Sunday Evening...Marist won the Large School Best Program Award, Holy Innocents the Medium School and Athens Christian the Small School Best Program Award.
Here is a collage of shots of the Winners and Contenders from the MS Championship Races. Enjoy! There is a 4 shot sequence of the incredible finish in the Large School Girls race included.
Although not the 'featured' races of the day, 1A-4A and 5A-6A provided some fast racing and opportunity for runners to pr with only 2.5 weeks before region meets begin. Emma Grace Hurley blistered the course running all alone posting a 17:33..Ermais Tewolde of Druid Hills who clocked a 15:56 for the fastest boys time in these races. Northgate's girls ran well winning 5A-6A.
A Private Girls remained the same this past week (thru 10-7) with Athens Academy perhaps closing the gap on an inconsistent Landmark Christian squad (injuries?) Former GISA school Mount DeSales cracks the top 10. There was some shuffling on the Boys side as Hebron Christian assumed control of #1 after their performance at Great American with a 17:36 team average. Landmark, Athens Academy and Lakeview Academy all moved up.
On the 1A Private Boys side not much change. Hebron and Galloway might as well be 1a/1b. Too close to call right now. Providence Christian is looking solid and Paideia continues to improve adding a new runner. For the 1A Gals Rankings Landmark seems to be running away with it, but several schools are packing up for a race to second including an improving Athens Academy squad, Hebron Christian, Providence Christian and Athens Christian who will all be competing for those final three podium spots!
Its another outstanding crop of Freshman Girls as usual thru 5 weekends of racing representing Georgia HS Cross Country. Josie Wirtz from Marist leads the talented bunch with an 18:42 at Warpath on 9-13. Pictured above is South Forsyth's Kaylee Dupont at the same meet clocking a 18:48 maybe 25 meters back. Lila Crump of Marist and Sarah Foreman from Landmark have all went sub 19:00...scary fast this early.
Cooler temperatures and lower humidity greeted the grateful runners at the 4th Annual Coach Daley Invitational. Sam Bowie of LaGrange and Kathryn Foreman of Landmark Christian took advantage of the pleasant conditions and the relatively flat, fast course and blazed their way to solid victories.
1A Private was quiet this past week as there was no movement in the Boys Rankings. Landmark Christian's girls widened the gap on everyone after Lindsey Biggar (frosh) stepped up with a 20:18 giving the squad a strong 5th runner. Hebron Christian moved ahead of ACS after winning the 1A-3A race at Carrollton. Galloway shot up to 6th after their 24:07 team average at Furman
After some serious racing this past weekend movement abounds in the All-Class Rankings. Marietta holds on to the top Boys spot and so far it seems they have a nice gap over the challengers. Milton rocketed to 2nd after their 3rd place showing at Knight's Crossing in Virginia beating some regionally top rated squads. Mill Creek logically moved into 4th from the watch list after finishing 4 points behind Peachtree Ridge at 'Ortho'. 5A Forsyth Central's stock rose dramatically after winning Warpath. The Lady Eagles of Milton, much like their Boys squad ran well in Virginia rising 5 rungs to 3rd. Landmark Christian may have found their much needed 5th runner at 'Ortho' placing 4th besting a few 6A top 10 teams along the way. Mill Creek moved up to 8th from the 'Watch List' and Westminster's vaunted Girls showed promise placing 8th at 'Ortho'. Marist and Northview have the makings of a nice showdown hopefully down the road
1A Private School runners make it difficult every week to choose an 'ROW' with so many talented runners in the class. For week ending 9-13 its Landmark Christian's Sarah Foreman and FPD's Will Martin.
69 schools competed at the rejuvenated Carrollton Orthopedic Invitaional from as far south (or more) as Melbourne Florida. Some incredible racing occured, but Ga.MileSplit was unable to be onsite for this event and reports as to what transpired have been non-existent on the Discussion Board. A few things are certain, Lindsay Billings ran great winning the Championship Girls Overall title and Leon County (FL) Sukhi Khosla was untouchable as he dominated with a season best time of 15:53.
After maybe having a few less teams attend than in the past, the Carrollton Orthopedic Invitational is 67 HS teams strong again and should have over 2000 runners registered for action Saturday. Many of the top programs in Georgia will run their entire squads and a few will hold out their top runners for another day... The Sunshine State has arguably three of the best boys teams in the state, two of the best girls teams in the state , the top freshman in the state on the girls side, and a potential foot locker finalist in Sukhi Khosla on the boys side lacing it up with our state's student-athletes. Its a star studded event that could turn into a barnburner depending on what teams from Ga choose to run in the Championship race....
Galloway's Boys for the first time in recent history rose to #1 in the 1A Private Boys rankings after the Georgia XC Invitational (what has become of this former HUGE meet?) Landmark's boys moved up a spot and Providence Christian jumped 4 spots after their win at Athens Academy meet 9-3. On the Girls side a #5 has surfaced for Landmark cementing their top ranking while Athens Academy moved up to 2nd passing ACS who moved to 3rd.
Some intense competition was answered at Saucony Battle of Atlanta as 1A Private ROWs Colson Hagan of Hebron Christian and Nicole Fegans from Landmark Christian showed their mettle.
1A Private lost 3 schools with quality programs to 2A (Pace, Holy Innocents and Darlington) But this Landmark Christian Girls team has a chance to be epic if they stay healthy. A 2nd place finish at Saucony Battle of Atlanta makes them an ez #1 squad for Week 2. Hebron Christian has a solid Girls team at #2, but their Boys emerged as the top team in 1A Private after an 8th place finish behind some tough 4A-6A Boys squads.
Marietta has become one of the top HS Cross Country programs in Georgia and the Blue Devils proved their top 6A 'Pre-Season' Rankings sweeping the varsity team titles Saturday at Nash Farm Battlefield. It was a great day of racing including Landmark Christian's Kathryn Foreman once again running 'on her own island' dominating the Varsity Girls race and North OC's Tyler Jones coming into his own taking the Varsity Boys overall win. MD Claude Spinks starts a horde of anxious MS Boys at beautiful Nash Farm Battlefield
1A Private ROW's laid down some fast times during this past weekend. Kathryn Foreman of Landmark Christian is selected as Girls 'ROW' and 2014 1A Private 800/1600m Outdoor Champ Robby Keough is Week 1 Boys 'ROW'
It was a hot one at Clinton Nature Preserve as 42 schools, including many of the top rated teams in their respective classes warmed up early and raced with a few surprises.. Clarkston's Boys came out strong winning their race as did Woodward. Forsyth Central displayed their strength placing 2nd behind Clarkston. Alex Murfee had the quickest Boys time in 15:54. Blessed Trinity's girls bested St.Pius in Race 1 while Cambridge came out on top in Race 2. Kathryn Foreman as usual disapeared early having the best performance of the meet for girls in hotter conditions at 18:24.
No conversation in 1A Girls Private can begin without the name of Kathryn Foreman being mentioned...A Foot Locker National finalist, sponsor of fund-raising 5Ks for the needy and honor student she has it all....and kid sis' Sarah joins the Varsity this season making it a real family affair for the Landmark Christian runners.
There will be no prelims for Class A, which means just Finals...1 shot and done and their journey to a state title begins Thursday evening with the 3200 Meter finals. There are at least 6 teams with an opportunity to either win the title or make the Podium club. Eagles Landing Christian (ELCA), Landmark, ACS, Pace, OLM and Holy Innocents. Every point will matter, every step, every toss and leap.
Here fresh off the press are the Performance Lists for the A Private Sectionals at Landmark Christian School and the A Private Sectionals down in Mitchell County. The A Public meet will be part of GaMileSplit's coverage this weekend.
Coaches - please check your entry lists for the A Sectionals posted below. Let your Region Secretary know promptly if there are any changes or substitutions. All Entry Lists Updated as of 4/22/2014 11:00AM. The deadline for changes is Noon,Wednesday, April 23, 2014.
Its going to be a battle of attrition this coming Saturday at Landmark Christian for the A Private Sectionals. ACS will face their biggest test of the season against some real speed from Area 3 schools OLM, Eagles Landing Christian, host Landmark and Holy Innocents. FPD will bring an army of qualifiers as will Savannah Christian . Darlington may have something to prove for departing Coach Parrish. Helen Williams (frosh) from ATL International has established herself as the lady to beat in the 1600/3200 after 5:05 and 10:49!! Nicole Fegans and Sarah Foreman aren't too shabby either at 11:06 and 11:07...
For the 1A Private Boys we have co- overall 'Athletes of Week'. Reilly Friedman turned in a 9:30 at Marietta FNL and Christian Coleman of OLM cannot be denied after clocking a 10.7/21.61 at the Run Fit Golden Eagle Invitational.
This class is getting tighter with every new week's ranking. ACS is still holding on to the top spot over Walker (though both are heavy in points per event) ELCA, Landmark Christian and OLM are hot in pursuit!
Athens Christian hangs on the top ranking thru 3-18, but Walker and ELCA closed the gap considerably after scoring the top 12 places. These rankings were calculated by scoring the rankings as a meet. We scored 12 deep for individuals and 12 deep for relays. For example, for individuals 1st place received 12 points for their team, on down to 1 point for 12th place.
Here are the 1A Private Girls Team Power Rankings thru 3-12 Tuesday meets. ACS has a young squad that's showing improvement and currently on top though they are heavy around 35 points. Walker is a surprise in 2nd with ELCA, FPD and Landmark Christian evenly matched. We scored 16 deep for individuals and 16 deep for relays. For example, for individuals 1st place received 16 points for their team, on down to 1 point for 16th place
This award is a huge honor being given to 15 student athletes across the nation who serve as an inspiration to their peers and their communities. Now in its second year, the recipients of this award are recognized for their exceptional performance in Athletics, Academics, and their service to their respective communities.
Darius Smith of Landmark Christian School signed his NLI to compete as a student-athlete for the University of Tennessee Volunteers. Smith is one of the top Hurdlers in all classes in the GHSA.
Kathryn Foreman's Foot Locker Nationals experience, Final day. Saturday was an intense day! I wasn't too nervous about the race, more excited! I was slightly nervous about a small injury that had flared up Thursday night...
Day 2 of Kathryn Foreman's Foot Locker Nationals experience...
Foot Locker National Finalist Kathryn Foreman of Landmark Christian begins her Daily Blog of her experience from arrival in San Diego. Everyone arrived in San Diego at different times; I arrived around 2:00pm PST. I was fortunate enough to get placed on a direct flight from Atlanta to San Diego, while many others had to leave home early and make connecting flights.....
Landmark Christian sophomore Kathryn Foreman placed 8th in 17:19 qualifying for Foot Locker Nationals in San Diego, California. Foreman has enjoyed a phenomenol season winning every race this season including the GHSA 1A Private Championship clocking the top Girls time of the day in 18:42.
Kathryn Foreman was unflappable, followed her usual strategy going all out taking an early lead over Taylor Tuttle, picked it up in the 2nd Mile creating a cushion that was too large to gap winning her 2nd consecutive 1A Private individual title clocking the Girls 'Performance of the Day' in 18:42. Those crafty Pace Academy gals ran steady as they had all-season bouncing top ranked Darlington seizing the team title.
Reilly Friedman left the pack early and cruised to the Individual title in 16:29 for the Galloway Scots' easily defending his 2012 title. Landmark Christian came thu in clutchtime running epecially well as a team capturing the coveted 1A Private team title scoring 102 points outdistancing a game Darlington squad by 23 points and 2nd ranked Athens Christian by 28. Spencer Geerlings led the Eagles' win finishing 11th.
Girls top 3 teams are pretty obvious, then the #4 spot seems like anyone could grab it! Darlington has been ranked #1 since Week 4 and has improved steadily all season. On paper, this will be the most intense race in recent history for the Individual title as Tuttle, Foreman and Williams are the girls to watch from start to finish. The stage will be set as A Private races between 6A/5A, who will be getting a 'Curtain Call'?
What a completely different atmosphere the Class A Private championships will experience this Saturday at Carrollton compared to down in Macon (in the sticks) with thousands in attendance and racing between 6A/5A, wow! On the boys side, it seems as if there are 5 teams that have a great chance to win it all, which means the Championship will probably be decided by less than 5 points or less... Also means a really good team will get 5th and be left off the Podium. Reilly Friedman of Galloway will be looking to defend his crown in the individual race.
Landmark wasn't fooling around as they won both team races and Kathryn Foreman roared to a 18:43. Reilly Friedman cruised around the State course clocking a 16:56.
This Georgia MS State Championship thing continues to grow each season as 77 teams, 47 individuals and 1247 total athletes are slated to be compete this Saturday in Cochran. Ga.MileSplit has helped promote the meet dating back to 2009 and its now a monster with up to 3000 folks attending including athletes. I urge you to get a t-shirt early, or you could waiting in line for 1/2 hour after the Small School events. The feature races are the Large School Championship beginning at 10am and the Small School races at 11am. Comparing teams is extremely difficult as the MileSplit database doesn't calculate MS Team Rankings and 4 different distances have been contested including 2500m, 3000m, 3200m and the 2 Mile (which the new Bleckley Elementary course has been wheeled at or very close to 2 Miles) 29 full small school squads will duke it out and 21 large school teams (guestimate) Also, please don't take offense if your favorite team isn't mentioned, as evaluating MS teams is best left to dataholic in his rare spare time, lol. Thanks for understanding.
The Athens Academy boys took home their first ever Team State title this Saturday at the Class A Cross Country Championships held down in Macon. The Spartans had been the favorite since the Week 2 team rankings were released and won by a 48 point margin of victory over runnerup Darlington. Landmark Christian is 'Queen of the Hill' again in A Girls Cross Country defending their 2011 title behind the amazing duo of freshman Kathryn Foreman and senior Lindy Long. Reilly Friedman of Galloway (soph) was not to be denied of his title and he cruised to his first of what could be many Individual Championships and frosh Foreman of Landmark Christian ran away with the Girls title.
Week 9 Runners of the Week were highlighted by Allie Buchalski's Championship Race title in 18:02 and Nathan Riech's runnerup finish of 15:47 in the Boys Race. This week the Middle School Runners of the Week are also receiving the recognition of 'MS Runners of the Year' ROYS Congrats to Kendall Nelson of Marist, Sarah Foreman of Landmark Christian and the Boys with Sean Parker of Woodstock Track and Anthony Potts of Malcom Bridge.
Wow, what a day of great racing this Saturday down in Cochran at the 7th Annual Georgia State Middle School State Championships! The meet was flawlessly ran by Coach Shelley Cranford's Running Royals and all the races ran on time as well. The attendance was visibly the largest and loudest ever as well. 4 Team Champs were crowned including 4 well deserving Individual Champions. The races were equally competitive in the Large and Small School divisions individually and teamwise as runners frantically battled for places all over the course and especially up the short straight final uphill stretch. Georgia HS Cross Country's future stars strutted their stuff in front of a large, loud and spirited crowd of proud parents, fans and teamates.
The Berry Clara Bowl Invite once again robbed most of the attention this weekend with over 2000 runners and many ranked teams. Here are some briefs on the 4 Major HS meets held this past weekend including the Mountain Eagle Invite(cover pic)
Sarah Foreman dominated the Mixed MS 2 Mile on the tough Landmark Course and is the Girl's MS "ROW" In a relatively light week of racing due to the Labor Day weekend, here are the choices for the Week 2 Ga.MileSplit.com Runners of the Week. Many athletes were very impressive at the UGA Invitational Equestrian Fields course and the Landmark Cross Country Invitational Garwood Stadium Course was a beast of a challenge....The Performances of the Week were turned in by Josh Brickell and Katherine Yost at UGA.
Sidney Speir and Brad Hort of McIntosh torching Clinton Farms Image by Christine Speir How many late August XC races have produced 4 sub 16 times in the Boys races and a sub 18 Girls performance? Granted, the weather was very kind until about 11am and almost all the athletes surely took advantage. Anyone who's not new to the Sport, knows the Bob Blastow layout at Clinton Farms is a fast trail, but NEGA and the Our Lady of Mercy course both got torched as well. The River Green Parkway also has a reputation as a fast and flat course (venue of the 2 Mile Stage Races) Westminster hosted the Kosh Classic and that course has a rep as being tough...
