Only 1125 runners participated at the annual Last Chance meet at the 'State Course' Saturday. Very few ranked larger school teams ran their varsities or came at all, with those in attendance taking advantage all around, giving their JVs a chance to test out the layout. In 2 weeks though, this venue will be electric..can you feel it?
It was a fun filled wet morning for the runners at the Atlanta Classic. Some very competitive racing occurred despite conditions which slowed the course. Whitewater and North Oconee took it to the wire in the Varsity Boys race and Huntsville (one of Alabama's best Girls squads) took it out on Georgia teams winning by 34 over Westminster. Our young GaMileSplit crew hung tough, shooting race footage and stills all morning!

This race for the team title in AAAAA was a classic in every way possible and North Springs came through in the clutch overtaking many teams on 'Leaderboard' having begun their Saturday with 0 points.
36 teams will line it up Saturday morning at Clinton Nature Preserve for the 2014 Atlanta Classic. It was a hot one at Clinton Nature Preserve as 42 schools, including many of the top rated teams in their respective classes warmed up early and raced with a few surprises.. Clarkston's Boys came out strong winning their race as did Woodward. Forsyth Central displayed their strength placing 2nd behind Clarkston. Alex Murfee had the quickest Boys time in 15:54. Blessed Trinity's girls bested St.Pius in Race 1 while Cambridge came out on top in Race 2. Kathryn Foreman as usual disapeared early having the best performance of the meet for girls in hotter conditions at 18:24.

Elbert County has speed and hops coming out of 8 and don't discount Washington County as they cruised in Region 3. This season, the course at Carrollton has ran slower, and may have been lengthened a few meters which should favor the 'strength' runners. At press-time, it has been discussed that mats may possibly be covering the many pavement crossings which has been a sore subject for XC purists as the growth of Carollton Schools has stirred the pot enough for a few schools willing to loan the mats they have to cover the pavement. This article will include 2A thru 6A State Previews only. The weather for raceday looks very promising at this time and bodes well for fast times http://www.weather.com/weather/wxdetail3/USGA0096 6A...we have been saving the Best for Last, and here it is from Ga.MileSplit.com, thanks to Pre1962 as expounds his unique and detailed breakdown for the Community....Ga.MileSplit.com and GATFXC would like to thank all the Rankers and Runner of the Week Committee members for the tough, time consuming efforts put forth this season to rank each class along with contributing articles and selections. This often is a thankless endeavor, as the Community is eager to differ on selections. We care about the kids, programs, coaches, fans and parents who support the programs and athletes. Good Luck to everyone in Carrollton and once again congrats to the Class A Winners, Podium teams, All-State individuals and volunteers that made it happen!
The UGA Cross Country course is on the grounds of the University’s Equestrian Center in Bishop, GA, just a few miles off the UGA campus....Saturday morning found the course in perfect condition, with a tightly-mown path, and firm footing (contrasted with the mudfest of 2009!) The collegiate races got underway at 7:59 AM, with lots of familiar names on the rosters of the UGA, Georgia Tech and Mercer squads....
