5A Girls State Meet Preview

Several schools have closed the gap on North Springs after Sectionals, making the 5A Girls meet quite interesting. North Springs still has the upper hand and should repeat with all their speed, but Union Grove, Starrs Mill, Chapel Hill, Alexander, Mays and Warner Robins  are waiting in the wings should a baton drop, false start, etc...Like most Podium contenders, these squads have some big time athletes that can pile up the points.

As mentioned, all the pressure will be on North Springs to perform up to snuff with their many Nationally ranked athletes and relay teams. Union Grove has a great shot to challenge North Springs behind their XC gals, including Ellunde Montgomery, Mackenzie Cromer & Kayle Haake. Then factor in Throws beast Megan Douglas, and its a meet now...Starrs Mill has come on strong the past 2 weeks with nationally ranked horizontalist/hurdler Alexis Farley and late high-riser Madeline Hammond peaking in the HJ. Warner Robins has benefitted from highly ranked Sprinter, LSU bound (my alma mater) Cassondra Hall, moving into their school zone and cannot be counted out as a Podium contender. Chapel Hill is led by Kayla Aexander, Kendra Edouard and speedster Angel Amadi. Alexander HS is led by sprinter Vivette Green and 800 specialist Brenda Ayuck. For Mays HS, Kamaya Street is a tri-event threat in the 300h, 400m and HJ. Alyssa LeClaire of McIntosh is the clear favorite to win both the 1600 & 3200. Pick your poison what events to focus on, as they all look terrific on paper! And, don't miss the HJ and Long Jump competition.
