Ok, clearly Milton is on the verge of their first XC State Title. In other interesting news, could Gwinnett county fail to have a podium team including an end to Brookwood's amazing podium streak?I doubt it and I think we will get a better idea at Coach Wood, Saturday really seemed to have a strange feel on not any team completely on...except for Milton of course. Very little movement in the Final Class Ranking of the Fall except for Roswell shooting up to 7th after a great race at 5-AAAAAA. Marietta looks unbeatable on 11-7. The 2-4 Podium spots will be wildly contested on what's forecasted to be a beat up, sloppy course in the afternoon.

Coach Wood really shook up the 6A Girls Team Rankings as every team in the top 10 moved either up or down. South Forsyth may be slowly closing the gap back on Northview heading into Region. Etowah ran great moving up 3 spots after their performance at Coach Wood. North Paulding tore it up bbreaking bad into 9th. *All teams designated 11th are in no particular order*
Coach Wood set things straight (for now) heading into Carrollton Last Chance followed by Region meets! Mill Creek ran great moving back to 2nd. Woodstock won the Sharptop Invitational. Walton is beginning to look like 'Walton' heading into the final 17 days of the 2015 season.
The Nike Fleet Feet Coach Wood meet certainly is responsible for all the movement in the All Class Boys Rankings this week!
South Forsyth ran LIGHTS OUT at Coach Wood, their #3-5 runners really stepped up to finish 2nd behind Northview. West Forsyth was off this week and stay in the top 10. North Paulding jumps into the watch list after a strong performance at Coach Wood finishing 11th.
If one was not at the Nike-Fleet Feet Coach Wood Invitational, you missed some high caliber racing Saturday on an absolutely perfect Fall morning. Most of the top 10 All-Class ranked teams duked it out on the Gainesville College course, which will make ranking teams very easy in a couple of days.
The 13th annual Nike/Fleet Feet Coach Wood Invitational looks to be as competitive as ever. With 62 schools and over 3,000 runners participating, it should be quite a scene in Gainesville on Saturday
Coach Wood will be a battleground Saturday for many of these top ranked squads. Little movement with Harrison jumping into 7th after Furman and Westminster is back in the top 10 after their 3rd place effort at Asics.
The Nike/Fleet Feet Coach Wood meet is going to shape things up...(Riley Friedman won in 2014) Five of the top 6 teams Varsity were off. Milton won Furman impressively. 4 4A squads remain in the top 10!

1 & 2 roll the dice...Mill Creek was off, Northview dominant winning Wingfoot. South Forsyth beat Milton at Wingfoot, but Milton ran without their #1 (Riley Burr) Marist was 4th at Wingfoot and Lovett 6th (without #2 Haley Hooper)
Mill Creek remains #1 until a heads up Northview at full strength won Wingfoot impressively.
No movement in top 7 places All Class. Whitewater moves into the top 10 after winning the Atlanta Classic. Great American may sort some things out next week up top.
There was no movement amongst the top 6 squads from last week with Marietta's Varsity, Brookwood and Mill Creek all off. Milton was the top 6A school at Wingfoot, and Peachtree Ridge & Etowah ran split squads last Saturday. Walton is back on the 'Watch List' after a 17:19 team average at Alligator Lake (FL)
The All Class 'Runners of the Week' ending 9/20 came from the Warpath Invitational and Gwinnett County Championship.
Marietta defeated #10 Nationally Ranked Broughton at the Adidas Classic rising to #1 in 6A & All Class. Brookwood rose to 2nd after winning Gwinnett County. Pope moved up 3 spots to 7th after a fine race at Ridge Ferry.
Mill Creek takes over #1 after their domination of the Gwinnett County Championship. Northview back at full strength looks poised to defend their 6A title. Parkview showed improvement at Gwinnett moving up 2 spots to 8th. Peachtree Ridge emerges on the 'Watch List' 11-15.

Once again some great racing in the Gwinnett County Championships as Mill Creek has established themselves as the premiere program in Georgia with their Girls just blowing away a competitive field by nearly 60 points and the guys a close 2nd to Brookwood. The Hawks also boasted the top Individuals with sam Costa Overall Boys champ and Camryn Petit taking the Girls' honors.

24 schools will descend on the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers for the Gwinnett County Cross Country Championships on Saturday.
6A Girls was very similar to the Boys as carrollton and Double Dip had a heavy influence on this week's team rankings. West Forsyth had a solid win at Ortho, Milton traveled well to Knights Crossing taking 2nd. There was no movement from 5-10 and the 'Watch list changed a bit with Alpharetta now on the 'Radar'
Milton sits atop the 6A Boys Rankings after their 2nd place finish at Knights Crossing up in Virginia without Jack Bluth and their #4. Carrollton Orthopedic and Coach Benson DD easily helped sort out the Weekly Rankings with top teams going head to head. Mill Creek was 2nd at Carrollton without Sam Costa (ACT) Brookwood ran their JV, Peachtree Ridge was off. Grayson had a good race winning Covered Bridge. Everyone should be full strength at the Gwinnett County (onsite coverage) and Fulton County Championships next Saturday
Over 1400 runners gathered at the State Course on Saturday having great mid-September racing conditions in very uncrowded race situations for this venue. Mill Creek Gals are atop the first All-Class XC season rankings after 2 impressive performances and how it could shake out in a meet with all of these teams listed in a larger meet. Should leave plenty for discussion for Insiders on the Discussion Board.
Okay, Milton is at the top of the Week ending 9-6 All Class rankings. Can they hold it, as Mill Creek and Brookwood both looked very tough early. 4A power squads Marist and St. Pius X follow that 6A group with many wondering where is Khayvonn Benson from Marietta. Let's get the discussions going now on the Board!RANKINGS ADMINISTRATOREdit RankingsEdit Series
After the first 3 weeks West Forsyth ran well enough to be ranked #1 in the first set of Weekly Team Rankings. Mill Creek won Berry. The top 7 teams could all move after this weekend's upcoming racing.
Milton is #1 in 6A Boys in the first set of Weekly Rankings. Brookwood showed at at&t Panther they have definitely reloaded. Several teams in the top 10 who went unranked in pre-season

The Berry Invitational had 53 teams tackle the Clara Bowl course Saturday as the Mill Creek Girls won easily while Peachtree Ridge's Boys nipped 3A Blessed Trinity by 2 points.
Incredible day of racing at the 2015 Saucony Battle of Atlanta as over 2900 runners tackled the pristine Nash Farms Battlefield course. Great conditions for a race in late August as it was cloudy with some breezes! A Civil War re-enactor in full regalia started every race with an authentic period Musket which made quite a boom!
Battle of Atlanta Preview- The Saucony Battle of Atlanta has grown from 22 Teams in 2008 to 76 Squads this season and has evolved into one of the premiere HS/MS meets in the State. The Nash Farms course is a 2.5 loop 95% grass course. Most consider the course moderate in difficulty and it is the most spectator friendly course in Georgia. Spectators are able to see over 90% of each race. The Nash course has been home to numerous major high school XC meets, several NCAA D1 meets and conference championships and the 2013 D3 Regional Meet. Due to the growth of the meet, there have been 3 more JV races added. The Middle School races have over 900 runners signed up as well.

Here are your Top 100 Fastest 6A Returning Girls by their fastest 2014 XC Time. Northview's Lindsay Billings heads the list with a 16:56 at the Lambert River Run.
A surprising amount of prominent athletes on the 6A circuit return for the 2015 campaign. Based on those returners, I’ve devised the following pre-season rankings heading into this season along with a couple highlights of those returners. NOTE: These are NOT State predictions which often weigh state meet history and other intangibles into play. This is my attempt to best make sense of the top returning teams without merely looking at a virtual meet.
Here is a list of your top 100 6A Boys Returners from 2014 calculated by their fastest time...which as we know can be deceiving with the variety of courses competed on. Davis Stockwell is the defending 6A Champ at 15:37.
While 6A lost some talent at the top, a surprising amount of prominent athletes on the 6A circuit return for the 2015 campaign. Over 50 schools will descend on Mill Creek Community Stadium on Saturday for the Jerry Arnold Georgia Challenge. The 11th edition proves to be another highly competitive event, with teams from various classifications duking it out before County Championships start in a couple of weeks.
You had to be there and watch the setting and atmosphere change as 4A began to race and the 6A schools and their rabid fans begin to arrive and populate the surrounding start/finish area and line both sides of the big hill below the school on top. The buzz could be felt in the air as the 6A Boys headed towards the start line and warmed up, doing runouts waiting for some sloooow AA girls to finish their stroll. Tension and anticipation mounted as squads toed the line and thousands of their faithful fans, jv runners roared as the race began...Marietta went to work taking care of business and no fewer than 10 guys mixed it up within 25 meters of each other till the end as Davis Stockwell emerged victorious...
6A Boys Team: Marietta. The entire season (and really even during last track season), the whole state has been watching this team. They’ve gone undefeated versus all GA competition and only have a blemish on their record vs. a now #11 nationally ranked La Salle squad (source: DyeStat). They very well could put 3 (more?) in the top 10 in the state’s biggest class, and with a 1-5 split of well under a minute at region, we can expect them to have their 4-5 not far behind. It’s their race to lose. Coach “Black Jack” Coleman will have his guys ready to go. It’ll be exciting to watch.
Region meets last week for 6A teams were quite telling of who the real players are this Saturday in Carrollton. The Boys top 5 are all strong. We can't see anyone pushing Marietta, but the real race is after the show for 2nd thru 4th, and will Miles Yapp be back for Brookwood? South Forsyth's Girls beat Northview at region, can they do it again and beat Milton? Milton's program has been on fire this season...and Collins Hill with their very tight pack at region could make some noise.
For as long as I've been involved as a parent/webmaster with Georgia HS Cross Country, the Gwinnett County teams (formerly in 8-AAAAA from 2001-2005) and now split into Regions 7 and 8, have been the 'Regions of Doom' as many squads were left sitting at home or watching onsite, teams qualify from weaker regions with no chance to make the Final 10. Its just a fact sometimes teams have the misfortune of being aligned by the GHSA. Now, with regions 7 and 8-AAAAAA (the super schools) have caught a break dividing the once large 8-AAAAA into 2 Regions. Some fantastic racing transpired at the challenging International Horse Park as Collins Hill's gals and Mill Creek's boys captured the team titles. Pictured is Mill Creek frosh Sarah Petit taking 3rd in the VG race.
Coach Wood was ahuge meet for Metro 6A's best of the best. Only South Forsyth and West Forsyth did not compete their with South Forsyth off. As the teams that went head to head so should be the rankings....Northview is looking untouchable in 6A if they stay healthy, Milton ran great moving up past Harrison.
In this article is a picture collage of the top 3 finishers including the Championship, Varsity Gold, Varsity Cardinal and Championship JV races. the cover pic is of Reilly Friedman of Galloway winning the Boys Championship Overall title in 15:50. All Images by Jonathan Speights.
How All-Class Rankings went reflected how 6A was affected. IMHO, no one gained any ground on Marietta's boys though Mill Creek and Walton ran great. Lakeside DeKalb's boys had a sweet race at Wendys cracking the top 10. Northview's girls were off and attached to a local 5k event. (per their school webpage) Mill Creek's gals were 11th in the ROC at Great American solidfying their #2 ranking. South Forsyth dominated at Mountain moving into 3rd. Etowah's lady Eagles ran well at Wendys slicing into 5th and Marietta's lasses are beginning to sniff Podium possibilities after placing 17th at Great American.
Take a Bottle, Shake it Up...Great American and Wendys (both NC) certainly affected All-Class Rankings this past week as no fewer than 6 Girls teams and 7 Boys teams had movement. Marietta's boys were 5 points away from winning the ROC at Great American and are stirring the pot in the Community as one of the greatest teams in recent GA XC history. Hopefully, they will get some respect Regionally from MileSplit National. Walton's boys catapulted up to 4th after Jesse Owens (AL) Mill Creek continues to improve after their Great American performance cruising to 3rd. Marist faced down tough comp at Great American staying put at #1. South Forsyth moved to 4th after Mountain Invite, Etowah enjoyed the beef at Wendys re-entering the top 10, and Marietta's girls had a solid race at Great American showing signs of their pre-season potential.
Here they are, in a more condensed version this week. Hannah Petit from Mill Creek may be a relative newcomer to the Sport but her win at the Gwinnett County Championships earned her All-Class 'Runner of the Week' ending 9-20. Other 'Class' ROWs for last week were Lindsay Billings, Alyssa LeClaire, Morgan Ilse, Emily Sexauer, Jordan Zimmerman, Emily Swanigan and Melissa Reyes.
Here are images from the Gwinnett County Championships of the top 3 finishers in the Varsity and JV Championship races taken by MileSplit photographer Jonathan Speights. Keep in mind, as a 'MileSplit Insider' you will have full access to all Photo Galleries and will be able to copy/save images to your computer from any meets....
By the most excellent spreadsheet compiled by your 6A Ranker, its easy to reason why teams moved up or down this week. Our All Class/6A rankers collaborate before releasing Weekly rankings to be as objective as possible (much like the AJC, rofl) Marietta Boys, Northview Girls are rock steady at #1 again. Teams moving up All-Class, did the same in 6A. Milton had a great week as some forecasted they would rise up and be top 5 squads. Mill Creek showed promise of what can be come November...Brookwood, Walton and North Cobb boys enjoyed the week off.
After some serious racing this past weekend movement abounds in the All-Class Rankings. Marietta holds on to the top Boys spot and so far it seems they have a nice gap over the challengers. Milton rocketed to 2nd after their 3rd place showing at Knight's Crossing in Virginia beating some regionally top rated squads. Mill Creek logically moved into 4th from the watch list after finishing 4 points behind Peachtree Ridge at 'Ortho'. 5A Forsyth Central's stock rose dramatically after winning Warpath. The Lady Eagles of Milton, much like their Boys squad ran well in Virginia rising 5 rungs to 3rd. Landmark Christian may have found their much needed 5th runner at 'Ortho' placing 4th besting a few 6A top 10 teams along the way. Mill Creek moved up to 8th from the 'Watch List' and Westminster's vaunted Girls showed promise placing 8th at 'Ortho'. Marist and Northview have the makings of a nice showdown hopefully down the road
After maybe having a few less teams attend than in the past, the Carrollton Orthopedic Invitational is 67 HS teams strong again and should have over 2000 runners registered for action Saturday. Many of the top programs in Georgia will run their entire squads and a few will hold out their top runners for another day... The Sunshine State has arguably three of the best boys teams in the state, two of the best girls teams in the state , the top freshman in the state on the girls side, and a potential foot locker finalist in Sukhi Khosla on the boys side lacing it up with our state's student-athletes. Its a star studded event that could turn into a barnburner depending on what teams from Ga choose to run in the Championship race....
The 6A Week Ending 8-30 'Runners of the Week' both came from the Berry Clara Bowl Invitational including Ashley Kehoe of Pope and Sam Costa of Mill Creek.
North Hall lived up to their pre-season 4A #1 Ranking besting Marist and North Oconee's boys squads. Frank Pittman has stepped it up for Marist winning the Championship Boys overall title in 16:15 nipping NH's Quintin Miles. Marist Girls unleash a frosh girl Josie Wirtz who leads them to the Championship Girls team title. Savannah Carnahan takes the Girls overall title in 19:00.
Coach Rik Moore holds a BSED and MED in Physical Education from UGA and a specialist in coaching from VSU. He's originally from Gainesville and graduated from Gainesville High School. Rik coached at Franklin County Jr High/ Middle School, Franklin county high school for 20 years and has been at Mill Creek for the past 9 years. As head coach he's won 3 region titles at Franklin Co HS and won the 1994 state title, was runner up in 1995. 3rd in 2003, 2005. At present school Mill Creek he's guided the Hawks to the 2013 6A Boys State Champion, runnersup in 2009 and 2011with 3rd place team finish in 2012.
Shiloh HS is the pre-meet favorite after winning Region and getting their top scorers out of Sectionals. If they perform as they have all season the Generals could have it clinched before the 4x400m relay. Westlake looks to be a contender and Brookwood's top guns will have them near the top of the leaderboard (electronic) by Friday's end. There are no less than 5 teams with an opportunity to bust into the top 4 including Lovejoy, Grayson, Mill Creek, Rockdale County and Collins Hill.
The weather was pleasant (finally) for Sectionals this past Saturday. 6A 'B' was held in Tifton Ga, and 6A 'A' was at McEachern and the racing was hot and heavy for both. Surprising the only chatter on the Discussion Board has been very low key. 103 National Elites were achieved in 'A' and currently we have no data for 'B' as of presstime.
Shiloh has 5 athletes that are piling up points...and in the crazy web the GHSA weaves upon competition limits they are controlling 6A. It only takes 3-4 National Elite athletes to win a state title down her in Georgia unfortunately as has been proven for decades due to the archaic GHSA rules. Rockdale, Westlake and Collins Hill are packed up together after Shiloh..
Hannah Lopez of Mill Creek HS signed her NLI to compete as a student-athlete for Winthrop. She is a 3 year letterman and All Gwinnett County for the last 2 years. She was a senior captain this year and ran all 4 years in high school. Her PR's are 5:23 for 1600, 11:17 for 3200, and 19:13 for 5k.
WOW...It couldn't be any closer in the 6A Boys Team Power Rankings..Westlake and Shiloh actually are within scoring parameters and separated by .5 of a point...6A Giant and defending champ Mill Creek is actually about 20 points behind these teams with North Gwinnett a close 4th. with Rockdale County and Peachtree Ridge lurking in the shadows...These rankings were calculated by scoring the rankings as a meet. The Jerry Arnold Georgia Challenge has been without question one of the best Outdoor HS Track and Field meets in the SE United States and this year's version cemented its reputation. Coach Jerry Arnold is without a doubt, one of the coaching legends in Georgia HS history (in any Sport) and this meet was off the chain producing 42 MileSplit Silver National Marks/Times. St.Pius X boys won the team competition making them heavy faves to repeat as AAA state champs at the GA Olympics in 8 weeks. Many race videos were shot by GaMilesplit's Taylor Ford and should be loaded in the next 24-36 hours. McEachern's girls made some noise giving Westlake notice they are going to challenge for a 6A title scoring 79 points besting Brookwood by 24 points.
Tyler Woodrome of Mill Creek signed with the University of Tennessee. Tyler was the 6A 1600 State Champion in 2013 and helped Mill Creek to the team title. He also helped Mill Creek to the 2012 XC State title as well as multiple Region team titles in XC and Track. Tyler holds the school records for the 800, 1600, and 5k. He also was a member of the school record DMR and 4x800 teams
Round 4 of the heavyweight 6A programs Brookwood and Peachtree Ridge didn't disapoint. The anticipation built as results were compiled with Peachtree Ridge's depth making the difference for a 12 point margin of victory. Soph Avery Bussjager of Walton HS won her first 6A state title in 19:04.
Never doubt that Coach Dehnke's Brookwood squad isn't going to bring it at State. The Broncos have bounced up and down in the rankings all season, but on the biggest stage ran well enough to take the AAAAAA title with 101 points. Closest team race in history as 28 points separated 1-5. Back in 2007 only 21 points separated 1-5! Fun to watch...Kevin Mills was a man among boys running tall to his first state title.
2013 is a year of parity for the largest classification in Georgia Cross Country. Both in team and individual races, there are no clear favorites in the way that has become the custom in recent years. Coaches will be busy doing quick scores in anticipation of the team outcome, even shooting video of the finish. This will be race for the ages..
On a brisk cool morning with temps in the mid to upper 40s at race time, Region 7 determined their champs and qualifiers for state. Kevin Mills of Peachtree Ridge won the overall title in 15:42 leading his squad to 2nd place. Mill Creek's boys came back strong from Coach Wood taking the team title placing 3 runners in the top 5 positions. The Ridge Girls easily won the girls title placing 5 in the top 11 as Addy Lippitt took the overall win in 18:37.

The Berry College Clara Bowl Invite was again a great event highlighted by the hotly contested, super competitive 'Big Boys' race..Coming into the race there was a lot of hype on the boys side, with Mill Creek and St. Pius X rematch from the Stage Races, and Peachtree Ridge who did not run last week. Berry was the coming out party for not only the boys of The Ridge, but also the highly anticipated girls’ team. Peachtree Ridge and Mill Creek took to the front of the race early to establish themselves and avoid the traffic. The oppressive heat and humidity began to take its toll in the 1A-4A races and throughout the JV races (pics by S.Weaver)
It was a blustery week and last Saturday will remain a long memory for many coaches, athletes and fans as everyone had to deal with relentless artic gusts that worsened as the day progressed. This season, the course at Carrollton has ran slower, and may have been lengthened a few meters which should favor the 'strength' runners. At press-time, it has been discussed that mats may possibly be covering the many pavement crossings which has been a sore subject for XC purists as the growth of Carollton Schools has stirred the pot enough for a few schools willing to loan the mats they have to cover the pavement. This article will include 2A thru 6A State Previews only. The weather for raceday looks very promising at this time and bodes well for fast times http://www.weather.com/weather/wxdetail3/USGA0096 6A...we have been saving the Best for Last, and here it is from Ga.MileSplit.com, thanks to Pre1962 as expounds his unique and detailed breakdown for the Community....Ga.MileSplit.com and GATFXC would like to thank all the Rankers and Runner of the Week Committee members for the tough, time consuming efforts put forth this season to rank each class along with contributing articles and selections. This often is a thankless endeavor, as the Community is eager to differ on selections. We care about the kids, programs, coaches, fans and parents who support the programs and athletes. Good Luck to everyone in Carrollton and once again congrats to the Class A Winners, Podium teams, All-State individuals and volunteers that made it happen!
The Berry Clara Bowl Invite once again robbed most of the attention this weekend with over 2000 runners and many ranked teams. Here are some briefs on the 4 Major HS meets held this past weekend including the Mountain Eagle Invite(cover pic)
Sidney Speir and Brad Hort of McIntosh torching Clinton Farms Image by Christine Speir How many late August XC races have produced 4 sub 16 times in the Boys races and a sub 18 Girls performance? Granted, the weather was very kind until about 11am and almost all the athletes surely took advantage. Anyone who's not new to the Sport, knows the Bob Blastow layout at Clinton Farms is a fast trail, but NEGA and the Our Lady of Mercy course both got torched as well. The River Green Parkway also has a reputation as a fast and flat course (venue of the 2 Mile Stage Races) Westminster hosted the Kosh Classic and that course has a rep as being tough...
