This season makes the 4th Annual Ga.MileSplit Middle School Challenge one of the premiere MS events during the regular season. Many MS state championship teams and Individual state champs have made the trek to North Oconee HS for this showcase meet. 12 schools, 2 Clubs and 10 Individual entries will compete for team and individual awards. Ga.MileSplit will have 2 photographers and a videographer capturing the action to be posted later this weekend on the site!
On a pleasant day with a cool breeze blowing in from the North, the Ga.MileSplit.com MS 3K Challenge was once again a fun meet for all on the 'fan friendly' Oconee Community Cross Country Course located right behind NOHS. Holy Innocents proved the 'Early Bird can in fact Get the Worm' as they arrived before everyone and then won the Championship team titles. Faith Bobak of Etowah Youth Track Club was the MS Girls titleist and C.J. Rich from MS State Meet host Bleckley MS was the Boys Overall Champ.
This Georgia MS State Championship thing continues to grow each season as 77 teams, 47 individuals and 1247 total athletes are slated to be compete this Saturday in Cochran. Ga.MileSplit has helped promote the meet dating back to 2009 and its now a monster with up to 3000 folks attending including athletes. I urge you to get a t-shirt early, or you could waiting in line for 1/2 hour after the Small School events. The feature races are the Large School Championship beginning at 10am and the Small School races at 11am. Comparing teams is extremely difficult as the MileSplit database doesn't calculate MS Team Rankings and 4 different distances have been contested including 2500m, 3000m, 3200m and the 2 Mile (which the new Bleckley Elementary course has been wheeled at or very close to 2 Miles) 29 full small school squads will duke it out and 21 large school teams (guestimate) Also, please don't take offense if your favorite team isn't mentioned, as evaluating MS teams is best left to dataholic in his rare spare time, lol. Thanks for understanding.
Week 9 Runners of the Week were highlighted by Allie Buchalski's Championship Race title in 18:02 and Nathan Riech's runnerup finish of 15:47 in the Boys Race. This week the Middle School Runners of the Week are also receiving the recognition of 'MS Runners of the Year' ROYS Congrats to Kendall Nelson of Marist, Sarah Foreman of Landmark Christian and the Boys with Sean Parker of Woodstock Track and Anthony Potts of Malcom Bridge.
Wow, what a day of great racing this Saturday down in Cochran at the 7th Annual Georgia State Middle School State Championships! The meet was flawlessly ran by Coach Shelley Cranford's Running Royals and all the races ran on time as well. The attendance was visibly the largest and loudest ever as well. 4 Team Champs were crowned including 4 well deserving Individual Champions. The races were equally competitive in the Large and Small School divisions individually and teamwise as runners frantically battled for places all over the course and especially up the short straight final uphill stretch. Georgia HS Cross Country's future stars strutted their stuff in front of a large, loud and spirited crowd of proud parents, fans and teamates.
