This was a great meet held at Starrs Mill's Panther stadium which produced some outstanding times and marks with the the top 6 from finals qualifying to the Regionals in Newport News, Virginia on July 5-8

St. Pius X grad Shelby Ashe was named the USATF 'Athlete of the Week' http://USA Track & Field - Ashe named USATF Athlete of the Week Shelby dominated the Women's Hammer Throw at the USATF Junior Nationals this past weekend after breaking the American Junior record and establishing a new meet record in the hammer throw at USA Junior Championships on Saturday of 223-06 which also gave her an automatic qualifying mark for the Olympic Trials beginning Thursday.
Another group of track stars from Georgia traveled to Greensboro NC for the New Balance Prep championships and brought home plenty of hardware. Throw1deep had the power this weekend garnering 2 National titles and 2 runnerups in the Girls Hammer Throw! Avana Story of Woodward won the National title and rising Frosh Kamryn Brinson of Marist won the Emerging Elite division. Also winning a gold was Alan Frye of Campbell in the 400 Hurdles Emerging Elite race. Bailey Roth is back injury free after his silver medal effort in the Boys Emerging Elite 2 Mile clocking a sweet 9:22.98. Javianne Oliver from Monroe Area also had herself a great meet placing 2nd in the 100m and 3rd in the 200m. Here were the Top Performers from Georgia.......
Georgians had an OUTSTANDING weekend of competition on the national level at the USA Track & Field Junior National (19 & under) Championships. Winning National titles were Coffee County sensation Tyreek Hill as he doubled in the 100 and 200m races clocking impressive times of 10.28 (-1.8 headwind) and 20.57. Hill automatically earned a spot on Team USA at the World Junior Championships in Barcelona, Spain. Kirubel Errassa formerly of Grayson also captured a title winning the 5000 meters in 14:28.00! Shelby Ashe (also a St. Pius grad) continued her domination in the Hammer Throw taking the gold with a sling of 223-06. Morgan Snow had the meet of her life as she slashed her way over the hurdles to a National title against a headwind (-1.8) 13.26 in the 100h. Nikita Kirilov of Ga Tech (a St.Pius grad) won the Pole Vault competition with a clearance of 5.54m (18-02).....
UGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta State University’s Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will begin sponsorship of track and field, according to an announcement Wednesday from ASU Director of Athletics Clint Bryant. Bryant indicated the Jaguars will sponsor women’s and men’s track & field beginning with the fall, 2012 semester.
