Coaches/members, I wanted to reach out to all of you and let you know the process that was going on trying to get our schools/athletes the opportunity to compete in this awesome opportunity, but it will not happen THIS year. I submitted a formal request (on behalf of GATFXCCA/GHSA member schools) to allow teams/coaches to participate as scholastic/high school programs citing benefits, history of the indoor meet formerly at the GA Dome GATFXCCA had a strong endorsement of support from a member of the GHSA TF/XC Advisory Committee with allowing this GHSA's initial response was the Sunday events for high school competition was against GHSA rules (and most if not ALL state athletic associations) NSAF/Dunamis Group accommodated by moving any HS event previously on Sunday to Saturday GHSA outlined the requirements for sanctioning that could lead to official approval (sanctioning) Final requirement would be getting NFHS sanctioning but due to issues with other states, NSAF is NOT going to pursue sanctioning this late in the process Kids can still compete as "unattached" or with their respective clubs, but not as a high school team/under the school name Biggest thing is making sure that EVERYONE IN GA knows that WE (GATFXCCA), NSAF/Dunamis Group & the GHSA worked on trying to make it happen, but it just wasn't possible this year. I also want to personally thank Mike Judge (Throw1Deep/USATF-GA) for all he did to be a liaison with the NSAF/Dunamis Group to make this happen. Timing is everything and now that all parties are aware of how to proceed if the event continues, we have the model in place and can submit in a timely fashion. We hope to see you at the annual clinic on Jan 12-13 at the Atlanta Track Club! A complete list of sessions/speakers should be ready to publish by the beginning of next week! Yours in TFXC, Coach Henson, President Parkview Panthers Track & Field
Coaches/members,

I wanted to reach out to all of you and let you know the process that was
going on trying to get our schools/athletes the opportunity to compete in
this awesome opportunity, but it will not happen THIS year.

I submitted a formal request (on behalf of GATFXCCA/GHSA member
schools) to allow teams/coaches to participate as scholastic/high
school programs citing benefits, history of the indoor meet formerly
at the GA Dome

GATFXCCA had a strong endorsement of support from a member of the
GHSA TF/XC Advisory Committee with allowing this

GHSA's initial response was the Sunday events for high school
competition was against GHSA rules (and most if not ALL state
athletic associations)

NSAF/Dunamis Group accommodated by moving any HS event previously on
Sunday to Saturday

GHSA outlined the requirements for sanctioning that could lead to
official approval (sanctioning)

Final requirement would be getting NFHS sanctioning but due to issues
with other states, NSAF is NOT going to pursue sanctioning this late
in the process

Kids can still compete as "unattached" or with their respective
clubs, but not as a high school team/under the school name

Biggest thing is making sure that EVERYONE IN GA knows that WE (GATFXCCA),
NSAF/Dunamis Group & the GHSA worked on trying to make it happen, but it
just wasn't possible this year.

I also want to personally thank Mike Judge (Throw1Deep/USATF-GA) for all he
did to be a liaison with the NSAF/Dunamis Group to make this happen.

Timing is everything and now that all parties are aware of how to proceed
if the event continues, we have the model in place and can submit in a
timely fashion.

We hope to see you at the annual clinic on Jan 12-13 at the Atlanta Track
Club! A complete list of sessions/speakers should be ready to publish by
the beginning of next week!

Yours in TFXC,

Thanks for giving it a go. Having an indoor facility in Georgia is great. Way better than driving to B'ham, Clemson, Vandy or UK. Too bad it couldn't work out to be a meet when high school teams can go as teams but it the opportunity to run indoors is still cool.

Is it against GHSA rules for a coach to drive athletes to this meet even if they run unattached?
Is it against GHSA rules for a coach to drive athletes to this meet even if they run unattached?
@GoCubs Yes. Here is the paragraph from the GHSA Constitution: "Unattached Competitor: Individual athletes may participate in non-GHSA events in the sports of Cross Country, Golf, Gymnastics, Riflery, Swimming, Tennis, Track and Wrestling as long as they do not represent their school, do not wear the school uniform, and are not coached at the event, or transported to the event, by their high school coach."

Is there any reason HS teams cannot participate in this meet and count it as one of our regular season meets? This meet takes place after the official competition date and there is no rule stipulating these meets must be outdoors. The only mention of "indoor" states that it will not count against the allowable number of meets if it takes place between the start of the season and the start of competition. "Track teams may compete in one (1) indoor meet, and this meet will not count as a part of the ten (10) meets allowed per athlete provided the meet is after the date for practice to begin and prior to the date to begin regular competition."

Unfortunately, it is out of our hands. As was said in the initial post, the meet will not be sanctioned on the national level which means GHSA will not sanction it.

We are hoping now that everything is on the table that the event is held next year, too, and we can participate!
