300m hurdles from Wingfoot 2023
3. Will we see a sub 40 in the girls 300m hurdles?
Last year we saw not one, not two, but THREE girls break the state record in the 300m hurdles. And two of them were not even upperclassmen in school. Marianna Wright from Monroe is the current state record holder as a junior in high school. But possibly even more incredible is the fact that Jasmine Robinson from North Cobb is 3rd all time in Georgia and is only a sophomore this year. These two ladies are special, that's for sure. Their race at Wingfoot was pretty incredible last year. There's just so much reason to believe they will do something nobody has ever done before as they're both still young enough. This year is probably not even going to be the best year in this event. If they both stay healthy, then they could really do something crazy next spring. But sub 40 is also an almost unthinkable time for the 300m hurdles. There are only two girls who have ever done it. And one of them is Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone. I can't even believe I'm mentioning the fact that Georgia might have two girls who are in the same ballpark as her. And while McLaughlin-Levrone's national record of 38.9 is probably safe, you just never know what might happen if these two both go under 40. Last year Robinson was the 4th fastest freshman and Wright was the 7th fastest sophomore in US history. And wright has already run a couple of PRs this indoor season. That means sub 40 is definitely in play for them this year. Stay tuned when we get to April and May.
