It appears that the AA Boys team title will come down to a duel between 2 schools with different strengths, Vidalia and Bleckley County.

Here are the 2A Boys Team Power Rankings thru 4-2. Are the Hurricanes from down south in Fitzgerald headed to a State title for Coach Schoutz?
I must have heard the score wrong after the 300m Hurdles team scores were announced during awards, hearing 'Westminster 67, Lamar County 61', meaning Lamar had to win the 4x400..and hope for Westminster to place 7th/last. But, Lamar actually had a stronger hand trailing by just 1.5 points and their 3rd place finish adding 6 points was more than enough to overtake the Cats' by 2.5 points sealing the 2A title for the Trojans. Lawrence and Lance Austin were key on Saturday scoring 26 points in the Hurdles and 200m as well as being legs on Lamar's relay teams that scored 18.
Coach Shoultz is the Head Track and Field Coach at Fitzgerald High School. He has helped build the program from 8 kids, an asphalt non-marked track, no runways, HJ pit to Region Champs and contenders for the 2A Boys state title. He played Football at Alabama for 2 years, then transferred to West Alabama playing 3 more seasons.
There was some good racing happening down in Barnesville at Section A as 21 National Elites were achieved. Taylor DeLoach of St.Vincent's had a career day going 20-1 in the LJ and turned in 2 fast short Sprints Q' times. Thomasville got their top athletes out as did Jeff Davis, Monticello and Bleckley County. On the Boys side Fitzgerald, Lamar County, Bleckley County will move on to Jefferson with their best. In Section 'B' at Norcross the usual suspects Lovett, Westminster and Wesleyan advanced their top girls to Albany and Laney will bring some heat. For the boys seems like caught a good tailwind in the 100 meters as all the runners had big prs including a 10.55 by Jaquivius Cannon of East Laurens. GAC performed well in the Sprints, Westminster dominated in distance events, Calhoun will bring speed and Keyth Fightmaster, Westminster and Jefferson q'd many Field Events scorers.
Class AA will be a battle of attrition at Sectionals but the AA 'Region' Athletes of the Week should qualify easily for State. Hailey Branch is beginning to show signs of peaking after sweeping the 6-AA distance events including a 11:10 3200m. Charlie Woerner from Rabun County scored big in 3 events at the 8-AA meet. Including winning the 110 Hurdles, Shot and placing 2nd in the Discus.
its going to be interesting who makes it out of Sectionals in Girls AA. Once again, the power resides in Region 6 with evenly matched squads, though WEsleyan pulled a minor upset taking the team title. Westminster, Lovett and GAC need to qualify their top athletes at Sectionals. Bleckley County, Thomasville, Fitzgerald, Jeff Davis, Jefferson, Monticello and Spencer have the potential to make the AA Girls Sectionals a train wreck.
6-AA is without a doubt the most competitive AA Region in the state as Westminster, Wesleyan, GAC and Lovett should qualify the majority of their athletes for State. Lamar County and Fitzgerald have speed and hops that will be on display at Sectionals. Thomasville seems to have gotten some athletes to compete in Track this Spring by their showing at Region. Regions 3-AA and 7-AA once again did not submit results....
Victoria Powell of Lovett HS and Leah Ward from Fitzgerald are the co- overall 2A Girls 'Athletes of the Week. Powell clocked fast times in the 200/400 meters at 25.58/57.48 at the Westminster Invite and Leah Ward cleared a bar of 11-00 last nite at a Fitzgerald Home Meet.
2A Boys is shaping up 2 weeks out from Region meets to be the most competitive its been in several years. Westminster and Fitzgerald are really too close to call with Lamar County looking to break into the top spot and Jefferson a strong 4th.
Fitzgerald athletes made a big statement at their Friday Night Lights meet the Colony Bank Invitational and WEstminster should be a bit concerned. Trey Graham of the Purple Canes' was selected as the overall 'Athlete of the Week'
Westminster's Boys are the 'King of the Hill' for the 2A Boys Team Power Rankings thru 3-18. These rankings were calculated by scoring the rankings as a meet. We scored 12 deep for individuals and 12 deep for relays. For example, for individuals 1st place received 12 points for their team, on down to 1 point for 12th place.
Walton's Tayla Carter crossed the finish line in 11.63 for the top 100m performance of the day Photo by Pinion Photography Athens Christian Makes it a 3-Peat, Walton outlasts MLK in 5A by 1 Point, Redan Sprints and Hurdles away from SW DeKalb in 4A, GAC blows away everyone in AA scoring in just the sprints and relays and Monroe Albany is too deep again adding another title to their padded resume.
