Wow, how close could this one possibly get? Everything was on the line in the final event of the 5A meet and it came down to Pope not qualifying for finals in the 4x400 (1 spot out) and Miller Grove doing what they absolutely had to do, which was comfortably placing 5th, scoring 4 GIANT points, securing the 5A Girls state title. Of course, there was much more involved in how it led up to 4x400m relay. Northside Warner Robins did everything possible Saturday to make it a horse race as their best athletes and relay squads won 5 events putting a scare into Miller Grove and Pope.
This class is going to be very tight if things hold up on paper (which they rarely do, and why we run the races) A big miscue, False Start, DQ could cost the 5A team title. The players are Pope, which is strong all around. Miller Grove who has incredible speed and trackstar Tiffany Flynn. North Springs whose real scoring ops will be the sprints, hurdles and relays. New Manchester will rely on their speed, relays, hurdles and horizontal hops. Northside WR has Cassondra Hall whose the favorite to take the 100/200, and strong relays. Forest Park's strengths are on the Field and Hurdles.
Better late, than never, here are the AAAAA Region 'Athletes of the Week'. Breshhawrd Cooper elevated the Jaguars to the Region 8 team title by sweeping the 200/400 Finals clocking a 21.96/49. Cooper also was a key leg on both winning Cedar Shoals' relay teams. Tiffany Flynn is no stranger to being selected as an 'AOW' and her 'Triple' helped drive Miller Grove to the team title in Region 5. Flynn owned the horizontal jumps going 40-1/19-0 then she ripped out a 14.30 in the Finals of the 100 Hurdles.
Here is a brief Recap of the AAAAA Girls Region meets. Miller Grove, Loganville, Pope, New Manchester and Northside Warner Robins will take many athletes to Sectionals. In Region 4 Forest Park pulled a stunner tieing host school Starrs Mill for 1st place.

Also added as co-overall 5A gals 'AOW' is once again Tiffany Flynn from Miller Grove as she went 14.15 in the 100h, and 39-11/19-1.25 in the horizontals!
In Girls Class 5A we have a true race between powers Pope HS who is very balanced, and Miller Grove who thrives on their speed, hurdles and horizontals. New Manchester and North Springs are within striking distance as well as Starrs Mill.
Pope has a well balnced attack with distance, hurdles and throws Elite athletes, which could prove to be deadly down in Albany..Miller Grove and New Manchester thrive in the sprints, hurdles, relays and horizontal jumps. North Springs has been working been working their way up the ladder...
Miller Grove has not competed since the Sandlapper Classic held in South Carolina and Pope HS closed the gap considerably with their elite athletes performances at the Coaches Invitational. North Springs is a strong 3rd followed by Lakeside Evans, Starrs Mill and New Manchester. These rankings were calculated by scoring the rankings as a meet. We scored 12 deep for individuals and 12 deep for relays. For example, for individuals 1st place received 12 points for their team, on down to 1 point for 12th place.
Here are the 5A Girls 'Athletes of the Week' ending 3-10. Yo, we now recognize 2 categories in the Field Events: Jumps and Throws as demanded. Miller Grove's Tiffany Flynn was fabulous at the Sandlapper Classic in SC capturing 3 AOW honors this week as the Overall AOW and Hurdles and Jumps categories! This makes it 2 consecutive weeks Flynn has been named Overall 5A Girls 'AOW'!
Here are the 5A Girls Team Power Rankings thru 3-10. Miller Grove has been looking very strong with Pope hanging around a little further back than displayed as a distance athlete has 3 top times (800/1600/3200)
