The DeKalb County Varsity Championships is back in business again after being postponed due to COVID-19 concerns a few weeks ago. Nineteen schools are registered along with 376 athletes ready to compete in the annual speed fest. Once again, Miller Grove HS will serve as the meet host with Coach Eric Keddo manning the helm as Meet Director, and Buck Godfrey Stadium serving as the venue. As there was no 2020 championship meet due to the shutdown COVID-19 caused, many new athletes will be aiming to make their presence known as the new stars of the DeKalb track and field community as well as statewide. MileSplit Georgia will be onsite shooting photos on Day 1 and race video both days.
Boys Team Outlook
Coming into the meet, the simplest way to get a baseline of who the contenders for the team title is by running a 'Virtual Meet' from the Rankings menu. Keep in mind, only 1 relay team per school is being allowed, but 3 athletes per school per event are competing per the new Georgia rules. This can be a big advantage for squads blessed with raw speed such as Stephenson HS. On the other side of the coin, it favors Decatur HS as the Tigers have a strong distance contingent. Chamblee and Tucker have the most balanced squads of the top 7-8 schools.

Girls Team Outlook
On the girls side of the meet, its a very different looking beast indeed. The top 2 schools could come down to the 4x400 relay to determine the team champion. Chamblee is a very balanced squad, but also has the luxury of speed which often separates the girls from the women at DeKalb. Dunwoody, the 2019 6A State champs, strengths are out on the field led by All-Time thrower Janae Profit and their distance prowess. The next four schools chasing them will be Decatur, Druid Hills, Tucker and Arabia Mountain. Tucker should make a run on Friday finals led by speedster Mallory Hodge.
