Perfect temperatures greeted runners on Saturday morning for the 10th annual Atlanta Classic (formerly known as The Mill Run). The Clinton Nature Preserve course is a mix of rolling terrain on grass and dirt, with a small stretch of gravel road thrown in the mix. Not a fast course by most estimates, as runners are tested by a series of turns and 3 hay bale jumps along the way. Kathryn Foreman took off early and was never challenged winning the Girls Overall in 18:15 Logan Poteer from Kell won his 2nd major invitational in 16:00. AAA teams Woodward Boys and St.Pius X Girls raced to the team titles.

St. Pius (#1) got the better of Blessed Trinity (#2) last Saturday in McDonough, but it was close enough to keep things interesting. Woodward's Boys are ranked #3 in AAA and has been a Top-10 All Class Watch-List team all season, even spending a week or two at the very top of the All Class rankings.

The UGA Cross Country course is on the grounds of the University’s Equestrian Center in Bishop, GA, just a few miles off the UGA campus....Saturday morning found the course in perfect condition, with a tightly-mown path, and firm footing (contrasted with the mudfest of 2009!) The collegiate races got underway at 7:59 AM, with lots of familiar names on the rosters of the UGA, Georgia Tech and Mercer squads....
30 teams will line it up Saturday morning at Clinton Nature Preserve for the 2011 Atlanta Classic. The mostly single-loop 5,000 meter course will feature 3 hay bale jumps and an exciting 300 meter spectator-friendly finish. 2010 Champions Marist (girls) and St. Pius (boys) will both be back to defend their titles, although they’ll be challenged by the Classic’s strongest and deepest fields ever.

The 2010 Atlanta Classic
24 teams will gather at Clinton Nature Preserve on Saturday morning for the 2010 Atlanta Classic, presented by GATFXC.com and hosted by Chapel Hill High School. Predicted above normal temperatures and a newly-configured (and marginally slower) Clinton course will moderate the times a bit, but a talented field and a host of top-ranked teams should provide an outstanding morning of racing. This year’s layout will also give a nod to old-school cross country, with 3 separate hay-bale jumps (optional, but with about a 20 meter cumulative distance advantage). The meet is presented this year by GATFXC.com, and extensive post-race coverage will be provided including photos, videos and race recaps. Chik-fil-A also joins as a sponsor for 2010.
