What are your college plans, if you have them figured out?
I'm still figuring out my final destination, but I definitely want to continue running competitively at the division one level.
What's your most memorable race or race you're most proud of?
I would one hundred percent say my most recent track state championship races. Being able to perform well on a big stage like that after facing so much adversity at the beginning of the year was super special to me. Winning the state 1600 and 3200 was a dream come true and an unforgettable race.
What is your favorite meet in cross country season and why?
I have lots of meets that I really enjoy, but I'd say for the regular season it would have to be Wingfoot. Atlanta Track Club puts on an amazing race with a great atmosphere. That's one of those meets where it means a little bit more to represent your school and perform with so many spectators.
What has been your biggest challenge in high school or what has been the hardest obstacle to overcome?
Probably learning how to trust the process and be patient. Progress isn't always easy to see, so being able to stay consistent and confident in my training has been a huge part of my development.
What is your daily/weekly mileage like?
Most of my summer training block I was running 60~79 mpw, but during the racing season I'll drop back down to about 50.
What do you think is the biggest part of training that has helped you achieve success?
I think there have been a lot of things I can contribute success to including dialing in nutrition, good coaching, but the absolute number one thing is consistency. I truly believe showing up every day, even when I may not always feel up for it, has made the biggest difference over time.
What is your all time favorite workout?
I can't give all the secrets but one really fun workout I do is a reverse fatigue CNS workout. CNS is short for central nervous system. Basically it's an almost all-out 1k, rest, and then you do about 10 200s at mile race pace, getting faster each rep. The 200s are supposed to feel better and better as you do them.
What is your least favorite or hardest workout?
I would have to say longer drawn out tempos. They're not necessarily challenging, but they can be really hard mentally staying locked the whole time.
Who do you have to thank for your success?
Running is definitely not a sport you accomplish on your own: especially in high school. My Christian faith is a huge part of who I am, and I try to let my relationship with Jesus guide me in both running and life. I also would say my family, friends, coaches, and everyone who shone a positive light on me is definitely who I have to thank.
Who do you look up to the most in your event?
I look up to a lot of different runners, but one that stands out to me is Matthew Centrowitz. I also really like Grant Fisher.
What gets you pumped up for a workout or race?
Competition definitely gets me excited. Knowing that God has given me the opportunity to test myself against other runners that are also putting in so much work is one of my favorite parts of the sport.
What is your favorite food and/or movie and/or TV show and/or song?
My favorite food is any Greek food my mom makes: she's a great chef. I would also have to say "The Big Short" is my favorite movie.
What will you miss the most about high school?
Definitely my teammates and the everyday experience of being around people at different levels with the same goals. It's so rewarding to be a more experienced runner and help out a teammate. I think all in all as this chapter of my life comes closer to being done I've realised the friendships I made through sports are probably what I'll miss most.
What advice would you give your younger self?
This may be pretty cliche, but just trust yourself and enjoy the process more. It's easy to get caught up in times and results, but the biggest rewards come from being consistent, staying patient and enjoying the journey.
