If you went into the state meet excited about what was coming, well then get ready to relive that excitement. This might have been the best state meet weekend in Georgia state history. It seemed like every hour I would get updated with a new US top ten performance, a new top ten all time performance, or even a new state record. These kids did truly special things over the weekend, so here's an event by event summary of what they accomplished. These are just their accomplishments from the state meets over the weekend. Several others earned spots on these ranks too throughout the season with their performances.
LJ - Joseph Alexander goes US #3 with a jump of 24-3.75
TJ - Alisa Gordon goes US #1 and 4th all time GA with a jump of 41-9.5 and Nicholas Crosswhite goes US #7 with a jump of 49-2
HJ - Riyon Rankin goes US #1 and 3rd all time GA with a jump of 7-3.75
PV - Amelia Johnson ties her #6 all time GA performance with a vault of 13-0
Discus - Shelby Speed goes #7 all time GA with a throw of 153-1
100m - Maurice Gleaton goes US #1 and Broke the Georgia State Record in the 100m with a time of 10.14 and Sanaa Frederick goes US #6 and #6 all time GA with a time of 11.41
200m - Chris Nelson goes US #7 and #4 all time GA with a time of 20.69 and Sanaa Frederick goes US #9 with a time of 23.99 (Note: Maurice Gleaton ran 20.52 and Ryan Davis ran 23.04 earlier in the season)
400m - Sidi Njie goes US #1 and Broke the Georgia State Record with a time of 45.46 while Ervin Pearson finished 2nd in that race to go US #6 and #8 all time GA with a time of 46.19 and Sydney Harris went US #6 and #6 all time GA with a time of 52.83
800m - Kenyah Conner went #8 all time Ga with a time of 2:08.79 (note: Oluwatosin Awoleye ran 2:07.43 earlier this year)
1600m - Joe Sapone went US #3 and #3 all time GA with a time of 4:04.27 while Alex Arrambide with US #8 and #6 all time GA with a time of 4:06.16 to finish 2nd in that race.
100h - Olivia Powell went US #7 (all conditions) and #6 all time GA with a time of 13.44
300h - Isaiah Taylor went US #1 with a time of 35.94 and Marianna Wright went US #3 and Broke the Georgia State Record with a time of 40.81. (Note: Taylor's PR of 35.91 from last year is #3 all time GA)
4x100m - Buford boys go US #7 and #3 all time GA with a time of 40.40 and Woodward Academy girls go US #9 and #7 all time GA with a time of 45.54 (Note: Westlake ran 40.29 earlier this season)
4x200m - Brookwood girls go US #8 and #2 all time GA with a time of 1:36.59 while Westlake girls go #5 all time GA with a time of 1:37.59, Richmond Hill girls go #8 all time GA with a time of 1:38.25, and Heritage girls go #10 all time GA with a time of 1:38.57. Southwest Dekalb boys go #4 all time GA with a time of 1:25.13 and North Atlanta boys go #10 all time GA with a time of 1:25.84. (Note: Westlake ran 1:24.79 and Langston Hughes ran 1:24.89 earlier this season)
4x400m - Southwest DeKalb boys went US #1 and #2 all time GA with a time of 3:10.55 while Buford boys went US #2 and #3 all time GA with a time of 3:11.24, and Grayson boys went US #3 and #5 all time GA with a time of 3:12.17. Woodward Academy girls went US #10 with a time of 3:44.63.
4x800m - Marietta girls go #4 all time GA with a time of 9:18.77 and St. Pius X girls go #7 all time GA with a time of 9:21.48. Carrollton boys go #2 all time GA with a time of 7:46.62, Lambert boys go #6 all time GA with a time of 7:48.56, and Harrison boys go #8 all time GA with a time of 7:51.45.
