Georgia Military was a huge favorite coming in and Coach Simpson's bunch put it away early Saturday defending their A Public State title with a 48 point margin of victory.
Many of the A Public schools will be in contention for a coveted team state title at Hugh Mills Stadium in 4 days. Sectionals down in Camilla were virtually a rehearsal for the big dance without the 1600 and 3200 being contested.

The A Public girls, like A Private, basically had prelims at the Sectionals. There were no 1600/3200 meter events contested so those athletes should be rested and ready to pr in relatively cool weather for Albany in May. There are 4 schools with a legit shot at becoming team champs including Gordon Lee, Commerce and Georgia Military Prep (GMAC) who have squared off the past 2 weekends and feisty Marion County of Area 1. On a Power ranking calculated a few minutes ago, Gordon Lee and Commerce are in a dead heat.
This week ending 4-1, the Commerce girls are comfortably on top of the 1A Public Girls Team Power Rankings with Gordon Lee (heavy on FE points) actually just ahead of the Elite Scholars Academy.
Kayla Lawrence from Mitchell County has been selected after her performances at the LC Smith and Benson Relays in Albany last weekend.
Commerce's Girls also lead the 1A Public Girls Team Power Rankings at the mid-point of the 2014 outdoor season. Greenville, Elite Scholars Academy, Terrell County and Portal are far behind and in a pack.
In our 3rd installment of Ga.MileSplit's Track and Field 'Athletes of the Week' Prince Avenue Christian's Kevon Hudson is the overall 1A Private Boys 'AOW' after an outstanding meet at the Oconee barberitos Classic. Hudson had a LJ mark of 22-4.75 and clocked an 11.06 in the 100 meters.
