Georgia Boys & Girls All Time Indoor Track & Field Rankings

Could Madison Gardner make a run at the state 400m record this winter?

Indoor track and field was primarily a sport only in the Midwest and the Northeast. Because of all of the snow and cold temperatures those regions got in the winter, it was crucial for them to develop indoor track and field facilities to train during that time of year. That led to competitions during the winter as well and the sport was born. But it has grown over the years to include athletes from all parts of the country, and several of our neighboring Southeast states have indoor track and field seasons and state meets. Georgia isn't there yet, but there are several Georgia athletes who choose to do an indoor track and field season before their outdoor season starts. Not all of Georgia's top track and field athletes choose to or are able to do anything indoors, but many have and have produced some great marks. But mostly, those who have had an opportunity to do indoor track and field meets have fun doing so. So at the very least, for that reason it's a great thing that we have these records.

With more and more Georgia High School athletes choosing to do indoor track and field meets, it's fun to look back at the best performances ever in Georgia for each of the most common events. It's important to point out that since GHSA doesn't have an official season, most of these athletes had to compete unattached or for a club for their indoor performances. Note: for many events there are performances that have been converted from similar distances. For example a 55m converted to a 60m or a 1600m converted to a mile.
