Wrap Up Of The APS Series Meet #1

The Boys lead pack jostles for positions early

Atlanta Public Schools kicked off their 2019 cross country season during the APS Series 1 Meet on September 4. This was the first event in the district's six part meet series that takes place on weekdays at either Grant Park or Piedmont Park.

Three Ethans battled the 95 degree heat to claim the podium positions for the boys. Ethan Heyns of Maynard Jackson was first to cross the finish in 18:33.5, outkicking North Atlanta's Ethan Curnow who ran 18:34.4. Ethan Crosby of Maynard Jackson was third in 18:39.1.

"I really wanted to put our team on the map, get the other teams to recognize who we are and get the other teams to worry a little bit about us coming up from behind and possibly beating them in the future," said Heyns.

The girls fared well on the challenging Grant Park course with Elanor Finlayson of Maynard Jackson winning in 24:37.2 Grady's Jamie Marlowe and Ellie Spears took second and third with 25:32.9 and 25:33.1 respectively.

The top combined girls and boys teams literally took the cake as they were awarded a cake and mini cupcakes. Grady won the combined team scoring with their girls finishing first and boys taking second. North Atlanta was second with their boys winning and girls taking third. Maynard Jackson took third with their girls claiming second and boys placing third.

The next APS meet series event will take place on September 11 at Grant Park.
