Girls

In the field events Noelle Parker of Whitewater was a strong competitor throwing 43-5 in the shot put, and finished second behind Jamie Tesh of Alpharetta in the discus 121-10. Yamara Robinson of New Manchester looked impressive jumping 37-02 in the triple jump. Westlake’s Kevia Gonzales won the 100 in 12.17 just ahead of teammate Mia Phillips (12.20). Fayette County had their own 1-2 punch, but in the 100 hurdles, as Chinyere Njoku and Jessica Watkins edged out Erica Evans of Woodward Academy all breaking 15 seconds. The 300 hurdles were exciting as Ariel Terrell of Westlake narrowly beat out Njoku of Fayette County and Evans of Woodward Academy as all three girls broke 45 seconds. In the 4x100 Westlake held their title winning in 46.77 over New Manchester 47.09 (new #15 in the nation). Westlake improved on their already #1 time in GA in the 4x200 running away with a win in 1:40.37! New Manchester (3:55) and Langston Hughes (3:57) gave Westlake (3:50) a run for their lives in the 4x400 but came up short as all three teams were just slower than their season bests but all still under 4 minutes. New Manchester won the 1600 Sprint Medley in 4:17.15 to become the new #2 in the state of GA. In the end Westlake proved dominate as they won the meet scoring 64 more points than 2nd place Woodward Academy.

Boys

In the field events Joseph Woodbury of Westlake won the high jump with an impressive 6-08 jump to beat Jonathan Mays of New Manchester. Newton’s triple jumpers were a double threat as they went 1-2 in the competition, Malik Franklin (47-05.75) beat out teammate Jeremiah Holloman (45-08). In the sprints, Rashaad Pollard of Westlake (10.71) beat out Creekside’s Jasyn Stanley (10.83) and Woodward Academy’s Wesley Shaw (10.91). Nahom Solomon had a nice quiet run beating the competition by a minute on the way to an impressive 9:28 3200. For the hurdles Quandarius Weems of Griffin (14.65) beat out a strong competitor in Denzel Harper of Stephenson (14.87). In the 300 hurdles Cameron Glenn of Stephenson (39.24) came incredibly close to winning, but was edged out by Langston Hughes’s Trevon Reese who won in 39.16. The 4x100 was very impressive as 8 teams broke 43 seconds including both of Westlake’s teams. Westlake A won in a time of 41.60 over Shiloh’s 42.27. In the 4x200, Banneker held off Langston Hughes by .06 seconds and winning in a time of 1:28.42. Newton and Westlake had impressive 4x800’s as each broke 8:20. Shiloh’s 1600 Sprint Medley showed their strength by running a 3:31.35 to beat Woodward Academy. They then came back to beat Woodward again in the Distance Medley winning in 10:45.66. The highlight of the meet was the final event, pitting #1 Banneker vs. #2 Westlake in the 4x400, with other strong competitors Langston Hughes and Newton. Banneker bettered their time by almost half a second but it wasn’t enough as Westlake lead for nearly the entire race and winning in a #3 nationally ranked time of 3:15.51 to Banneker’s 3:16.72! Westlake won the team competition over 2nd place Newton and 3rd place Woodward Academy.
