Wait...it\'s only March? Are you kidding me?

It's only March 6…are you kidding? When looking at the listing of performances turned in so far this season, one would think they are looking at the final season results. So far this season, Ben Hubers has posted a 1:55 800m time and a 4:14 1600m time in the same week to continue where he left off at the end of cross country season. Brittany Hall posted a 2:12 800m on Feb. 18th for goodness sakes and followed that up with another stellar performance at a meet in Virginia! Some teams have taken advantage of these amazing early season performances to post some impressive relay times. Southwest Dekalb and Collins Hill have already broken the all time sprint medley record with times of 4:10 and 4:11 respectively on the same weekend at different meets. Any chance we can hook these two up later in the season and see a possible sub four minute time for the sprint medley? Joanna Atkins has logged a 54.41 400m time to accompany a 24.46 200m time…and you say it's only March? Nicole Okolo of Collins Hill has taken her game to a whole different level with a 14.22 100m hurdle time at the Icebreaker Invitational along with a 18'4.5" long jump and also ran a leg on a 48.98 4x100m relay team. Jackie Drouin, also from Collins Hill, posted a sub 5:10 1600m earlier this winter and ran a 2:17 leg on her distance medley relay team at the Icebreaker Invitational. Israel Machovec, of Dacula, goes 58'7.5" in his first outing of the season and looks primed for even bigger numbers later this season. He also unleashed a monster discus throw to go with it but the potential for 180+ does not look out of the question.
To say that we're witnessing one of the top all time starts for Georgia track and field in the history of the state, might be a gross understatement. One would be hard pressed to find a better opening weekend group of performances to rival what we've seen this season. With athletes like Ben Hubers, Jackie Okolo, Joanna Atkins, Jackie Drouin and Brittany Hall, we should be in store for an amazing season of track and field.
