Top Georgia Girl Track & Field Athletes To Watch This Season

The 2026 Georgia track season is underway, but more importantly March is here. February often provides a good preview of things to come, but the bulk of our best indications for region, state, and beyond come in the month of March.

Below I've got a list of some of the top girls returners in Georgia this year that are worth paying attention to this spring to see if they elevate their game after a very strong season last year.

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Skylar Cunningham - Greater Atlanta - JR - 100m: 11.32, 200m: 23.23

Cunningham is the first half of GAC's ridiculously talented sprint duo. She won state titles last spring in the 100 and 200 in the 6th and 9th fastest times in state history. She's had a solid indoor season so far but we are still waiting for her outdoor debut.

Ava Kitchings - Greater Atlanta - SR - 100m: 11.34, 200m: 23.93, LJ: 21-1.25

Kitchings is the other half of this duo. I'm sure this is an "iron sharpens iron" situation for them in practice as they push each other to be better. But Kitchings also competes in the long jump and was only 2 inches away from breaking the state record in that event last year.

Somto Igwilo - Walton - JR - 200m: 23.15, 100m: 11.38

Igwilo has been a stud sprinter since her freshman year and shows no signs of slowing down. She started off her year with a nice PR in the 400, showing that her strength is improving and should make her even tougher in the final stretches of that 200m race.

Olivia Harris - Buford - JR - 400m: 52.34, 200m: 23.36

Georgia really does have an embarrassment of riches on the girls side right now. There are more girls who could be included on this list and will be added to lists later this year I'm sure. But Harris has been incredible since middle school and continues to show she's one of the best ever. She's been eyeing that state record since her freshman year, will she finally take it down this year?

Zhalay Wilson - Norcross - SR - 800m: 2:09, 400m: 55.22

The Norcross senior stepped up in distance to focus more on the 800 in 2025 and it seriously paid off. You can tell she was still learning the event as the season progressed, but that learning experience should pay off big time this spring. She looked good indoors and should be making her outdoor debut soon in the 800.

Jasmine Robinson - North Cobb - SR - 300h: 39.81, 100h: 13.22, 200m: 23.60

Remember what I said about an embarrassment of riches? Robinson is one of the best track and field athletes in Georgia history. She's also the 3rd fastest 300 hurdler in US history, one of 4 girls to ever break 40 seconds. North Cobb found a way to get her in 3 individual events last year and she won them all, so expect her to repeat that feat, or possibly even add to it this year in May.

Mary Nesmith - Marietta - SR - 1600: 4:41, 3200: 10:12

Nesmith broke a 17 year old state record in the 1600 last spring, and actually broke the 3200 state record too, only to have it broken later on that year. Nesmith has been doing this at a high level since her freshman year. This is her swan song, and it's exciting to think about what she's got in store for us.

Averi Lowen - Bowdon - JR - 3200: 10:10, 1600: 4:57

Seriously, Georgia girls are insane right now. Lowen had a strong sophomore campaign, breaking the 3200 state record. But she's stepped up her game to a complete different level as a junior this year. She had arguably the best cross country season ever for a Georgia athlete, and then she's already stepped up her game significantly indoors as she's run 4:51 in the mile and 9:19 in the 3k. But more importantly she broke the ridiculous 16 minute barrier in the 5k this indoor season, showing that she's the best true long distance runner Georgia has ever seen, and it's really not even close.

Marley Derringer - Bremen - SR - HJ: 6-00

Derringer is a solid long jumper, triple jumper, and hurdler. But she's a superstar in the high jump. She's only a quarter inch off of the state record in the high jump, so you got to figure she takes at least a few cracks at it this year.

Kimora Stevenson - Etowah - SR - TJ: 41-4

Stevenson is also good at several events, but is one of the best ever at her main focus in the triple jump. She's got a little over 2 feet to get to the state record. But she's gotten closer than most in the last decade since that record was set. If anybody has a chance at breaking that, it's Stevenson.
