Weekly Review 10/19: Coach Wood Delivers Drama & Fast Times

What a race. The Coach Wood Invitational was amazing. The obvious thing that sticks out is the fast times from this meet. But this meet is always fast. And some years are faster than others. 2019 was especially crazy with how fast the times were top to bottom. It really just depends on what the ground is like on the morning of the race. Some years it's hard and gives us blazing fast times and some years it's softer and only gives us medium fast times. This year was the latter I think. But it's still fun to compare times to last year and see who improved the most.

So rather than focus on the times, I really want to focus on the stories coming out of this race. Because with only 17 days until state, I somehow know less now about what will happen in Carrollton than I did going into this race. And I love it that way.

I'll start with the boys team races. I was pumped to see how the 6A and 4A team matchups would shake out coming into this thing. And they did not disappoint. Harrison won it by 3 points over West Forsyth with Denmark only another 22 points back. In a race where the winning score was 195 points, that's nothing. These 3 teams are virtually even on paper and whoever feels the best at state is the one who is going to win. It's that simple. Or that complicated, depends on how you look at it. The battle for the final trophy in 6A is wide open as well. Brookwood was the 4th best squad on Saturday, but they are by no means a lock for that 4th place trophy with about 5-6 other teams with a legit chance to take it.
