2024 Georgia Pole Vault Indoor State Meet Preview

GA Indoor Pole Vault Meet Preview

by Matthew Barry

On January 20-21, 2024 Pole Vault Atlanta & the Atlanta Track Club will partner for the 9th annual GA Indoor Pole Vault State Championships. This is the longest running indoor pole vault only meet in the Southeast. The meet came together after the Atlanta Track Club built their indoor facility and Pole Vault Atlanta saw an opportunity to create a meet for pole vaulters across the state of Georgia.

The meet has grown so large that athletes from South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, & North Carolina have even attended the meet. We've even had Olympic gold medalist Katie Moon, Olympic silver medalist Sandi Morris, and other international athletes from Puerto Rico, Canada & the US Virgin Islands.

Since Georgia does not have an official indoor track season, Pole Vault Atlanta wanted to create an event where pole vaulters could stay in state for a competition. The meet has now become a staple event for the Atlanta Track Club, Smart Meets, Pole Vault Atlanta & other clubs across the southeast looking for some of the best competition.

The meet records are an impressive 13'7 for the girls, Becky Arbiv (PV-ATL), and 16'0.25" by Hunter Mallard (Unattached/Gainsville HS). Both of these performances happened in 2017, and this was one of the most impressive indoor meets in the nation that year with two girls over 13' and three more girls over 12'.

With over 85 members registered already with athletes, the meet also features some of the best vaulters in the South. Some of the top vaulters from Georgia that are already registered. Amelia Johnson (SkyVault) & Madison Townsend (PV-ATL) are tied for number one seed with 13', Adair Carlin (PV-ATL) at 12'9, Noelle Hambrick (PV-ATL) 12'6. Tennessee state champion, Fiona Eastman (FSPV) is the top out of state vaulter with a jump of 12'9 followed by Kailen Kramer from Mt. Pleasant, SC at 12'2. Two girls are not far from 12' with marks over 11'9.

One the boys' side, Will Frederick (FSPV) has the highest returning mark from last year at 16', followed by Jordan Frank (PV-ATL), Seth Burns (FSPV) at 15'6, and Harrison Green (PV-ATL) at 15'4.5. Clarke Bynam (SkyVault), Owen Anderson (SkyVault) and Luke Samples (SkyVault) round out the elite group of jumpers who also have PR marks above 15'. The meet also has 10 boys registered who have surpassed 14'.

This is one of the most stacked fields for the Georgia Indoor Pole Vault State Championships, and both the Atlanta Track Club & Pole Vault Atlanta look forward to putting on another successful meet!
