The Week Ahead: Championships Take Center Stage

Having grown up in Gwinnett, my coach always put a big emphasis on the county meet each year. He knew that it ultimately didn't count if we had a good day or bad day at county, but there was not a regular season meet on our calendar that was more important to him than the county meet. And we always knew it mattered to him for "bragging rights" as he liked to put it. But the reality is that bragging rights DO matter. It matters who can show up and compete when the chips are down and championships are on the line. It matters who sees a meet with the word "championship" in it and elevates their performance to the next level. Those are quite often the kids who show up big at the postseason meets to win and help their teams win. This is our first glimpse of who is ready to compete for things like a state title and more. Of course they may not be in their peak fitness yet, but the kids who show up this weekend with new PR's are most likely the ones you can expect will do big things in May.

So this week is championship meet here at Georgia MileSplit. Not a state or region championship, but perhaps an even more fun type of championship meet. It's a local championship where you compete against your local rivals. And your entire team gets to compete. Whether it's a county, city, or area championship, go out and have fun this weekend competing to represent your school!
