Weekend Highlights

The end of the regular season is here and that brings with it quite a bit of sadness as it's been a thrilling season with so many great races. But with it comes the post season races! It's almost region time, but before we go there let's reminisce once more about the awesome stuff we saw on Saturday. Check out the recap and pictures of the two biggest meets of the season so far.

The unofficial all class state meet is the Coach Wood Invitational. In the past three years it's been a PR factory. But warmer temps and softer ground meant you really had to earn it this time. We still saw lots of fast times. ETHAN ASHLEY got the boys championship win in the fastest time of the day with his 15:01 while Caroline Hood got the win in the girls race in her 3rd matchup with Ruby Little that saw the pair put up times of 17:55 and 18:05. The undefeated Mill Creek High School got the boys win barely nipping Decatur High School by 5 points when it was all said and done but Marist took care of business on the girls side scoring 113 points, almost half of the next place team. In the Varsity races, Joseph Minecci won in 16:05 and Elizabeth Shaylor won a sprint finish to take the girls race in 19:23.

In Cochran we saw tons of middle school races on Saturday. Malachi Burnett had the top time of the day with his win in the 11:03 in large school boys race. He was closely followed by Aaron Brodrick who ran 11:05 in the medium school boys. Jameson Pifer ran 11:11 to secure the victory in the club boys race. And finally Juan Luna ran 11:49 in the small school boys race. On the girls side, Ella Gibbs also ran 11:49 in the small school girls, continuing to show she can be a future star at the high school level. Samantha Gough ran 12:36 in the medium school girls race as the second fastest girls time of the day, though she was closely followed by Gibb's teammate Lily Farrell who was runner up in the small school girls race. Louise Delgado got the win in the club girls race with her 12:49. Liliana Beemer ran 13:03 Ito take the large school girls crown.
