Collis has been on fire in 2020 throughout the Indoor season and now in chilly weather at the Big Mouth Sports/Shuma Sports Archer Invitational on Saturday. Myles raced to a US #1 Outdoor time of 4:08.78 putting the hammer down early. Coach McCartney talks about the race and Myles.
Myles goal was to break 4:10 at Archer Invite as he continues to focus on competing at New Balance Indoor Nationals at the Armory in New York City on March 15. He ran two Indoor meets in 4:14 and 4:13- both full mile distances. Myles split 4:13.3 in DMR at Marietta Distance Carnival. Then doubled back in the 800m at 1:56.3. So, an attempt at 4:10 seemed reasonable. His race plan was to use strength from current training to push the second half. Although first 200 was quicker than discussed, his focus on lap three in conjunction with strength allowed Myles to pull off an excellent February effort. Looks like US #1 outdoor (early) to go along with his US #8 indoor. (tough to race a lot of indoor living in GA) Too expensive to travel to the competitive northeast meets. GA #7 Gwinnett #2 Tentatively plan to compete in a few big time outdoor meets. Arcadia in April, Music City Distance Festival and BrooksPR in June. Meets designed to be highly competitive and extremely fast. Myles split yesterday: 1:00.61, 1:03.28, 1:02.86, 1:02.03 for 4:08.78!
Good luck to Myles at Indoor Nationals, we will all be cheering for you!
