Altamaha Area XC Awards

There are 17 eligible schools from 11 counties, which include: Telfair Co. HS, Montgomery Co. HS, Vidalia HS, Vidalia Heritage Academy, Toombs Co. HS, Robert Toombs Christian, Tattnall Co. HS, Long Co. HS, McIntosh County Academy, Brunswick, Glynn Academy, Frederica Academy, Heritage Christian Academy, Wayne Co. HS, Appling Co. HS, Jeff Davis Co. HS, and Wheeler Co. HS (Currently no XC team)

*** Counties/schools that border the Altamaha River to the north and south plus Telfair County and Wheeler County which are between the Ocmulgee and Oconee Rivers which serve as the headwaters for the Altamaha River.  

*** GHSA, GISA, GICAA schools are all eligible.

Selection Process...

Runner of the Year, 1st Team, 2nd Team, Honorable Mention

1. A list of 35-40 runners based on the Season Best Time, Season Average Time, and State Meet Time submitted to MileSplit.  Times not reported to MileSplit will not be accepted.

2. Each athlete will be ranked by Season Best Time, Season Average Time, and State Meet Time seperately.  The 3 rankings will then be added together and divided by 3 to create a Rank Average.  The Rank Average will then be sorted.

1. Time from the State Meet will be used to break any tie in the Ranking Average.

2. If a runner did not run at the State Meet their Season Best and Season Average ranking will be added together and divided by 2 to get an Average Ranking.

3. 22 Individuals will be recognized.  

1. #1 Individual will be the Runner of the Year

2. #2-8 1st Team

3. #9-15 2nd Team

4. #16-22 Honorable Mention  

Coach of the Year

1. Coach of the Year honors will be tabulated from 7 categories that represent how each team did at Region/Area, State, MileSplit Virtual, and Altamaha Area.  

1. Each coach is eligible to earn points in each category.  

2. A total from all 7 categories will be calculated and the coach with the most points will be the Coach of the Year.  

3. If there is a tie the coaches will be Awarded Co-Coach of the Year honors.

• Champion (+3), Runner-Up (+2), Top 4 (+1)

2. Region/Area Individual Results

• Region/Area Champion (+3), Runner-Up (+2), All-Region (+1)

3. State Team Results

• Champion (+6), Runner-Up (+4), Podium-Top 4 (+3), Top 8 (+2), Top 16 (+1)

4. State Individual Results

• Champion (+3), Runner-Up (+2), All-State: Top 10 (+1)

5. MileSplit Virtual Meet (Season Best Time)

• 1st (+4), 2nd (+3), 3rd (+2), 4th (+1)

6. MileSplit Virtual Meet (Season Average Time)

• 1st (+4), 2nd (+3), 3rd (+2), 4th (+1)

7. Altamaha Area Individuals

• Runner of Year (+2), 1st/2nd/Honorable Mention (+1 for each individual)

Altamaha Area Academic Team

1. Athletes may also be recognized by their schools for their academics.  

2. Athletes that has a current semester GPA of 90 or better are eligible.  

3. Schools will be responsible for collecting academic data themselves and awarding to their athletes at the end of the season/semester.
