Last Chance Carrollton Glimpse

This long running meet held on the 'State Course' remains popular as 60 teams and up to 1738 athletes will get a race preview of the layout if they can qualify out of their region.  Carrollton Last Chance serves different purposes for many teams from getting their JV's a taste of what could be in coming seasons to a few actually racing hard.

 

With Region meets beginning in earnest Saturday it would be surprising to see how many schools will run their top 7. For others it could be their first look at the course to become familiar with what lies ahead if they get out of Region.  There are many schools that have entered their entire squads including: Etowah, Carrollton, Athens Academy, First Presbyterian Day, Landmark Christian, Lovett, Galloway, Perry, Sandy Creek, South Forsyth, Spalding, Wesleyan and Westminster to name a few.

 

After taking out the elbow turn near the finish line, rerouting the runners straight up the big hill instead, the course is a bit shorter than it was in 2012 when it ran long. But the 2 new hills added are still there and Carrollton remains challenging.  Unfortunately, all those street crossings remain and after repeated inquiries of putting mats down over the crossings hasn't been answered.  Some believe the GHSA state meet does not help our top athletes and programs get recognition on a National level due to the times posted..
