  • Dekalb County (GA): One of the best T&F counties in the US?

    Dekalb County in Georgia is proving itself to be a hotbed for national caliber high school track & field performances as shown by the results from day one of competition at their county championships on Monday. Three US #1 performances came out of the meet on Monday with more action to follow through final day of events on Wednesday. Brittany Porter of Towers High School has been on a tear in the girls' long jump since her win at Nike Indoor Nationals as she extended her previous US leading outdoor mark to 21 feet and 3 1/2 inches, while also taking the triple jump with a leap of 39 feet. Miller Grove High School and Ken Gilstrap were rolling out some blazing times to start the week as well as Gilstrap improved his US #1 time (10.39) in the 100 meter dash to 10.31 in the prelims, while also clocking in the nation's fastest time of the season in the 200 meter dash as the first under 21 seconds at 20.98 in the preliminary round. Gilstrap also ran on Miller Grove's 4x100 meter relay which became the first school under 41 seconds in the country at 40.98 in the prelims. Another Grove school, Cedar Grove, also posted a swift relay time in Monday's qualifying rounds in the boys 4x400 meter relay at a US #2 3:16.12. Dekalb County Championships - Day 1 Results

  • Georgia Athletes Take Home More Bounty from NSIC Meet at the Armory

    Davis Fraker(l) and Nabil Mubarek(r) flank Nick Vena from NJ (70-03) in the Shot Awards! Several Georgia HS athletes also represented at the NSIC Meet held at the Armory in New York. Throw1deep Club drove 4 hours from Boston to NY and made several journeys to the Awards Podium as did Brittany Porter taking 2nd in the LJ.

  • Lauren Chambers Takes NIN Title in the Weight Throw!

             Lauren won the event with her 2nd throw of 17.94m converted= 58-10.25. Throw1deep Club however was not finished as they swept the top 3 places in the Girls Finals with Patrice Gates capturing 2nd place in 54-05.25 and Jazmine Miller only a .5" behind her taking 3rd in 54-04.75. Nabil Mubarek of Grayson HS placed 4th in the Boys Final with a toss of 68-05.75 and Miles Freberg of Walton HS also cracked the top 10 placing 7th with a mark of 65-09.50.
