Here are the 4A Boys Team Power Rankings thru 4/4. Arabia Mountain is 'King of the Hill' right now.....
Here are the 4A 'Athletes of the Week' ending 3-19: Thomas Moore, Scott Simpson, Nailah Moore, Betty Jackson, Arabia Mountain 800 SMR squad and Monroe-Albany girls 4x100 & 4x400 squads!
Marist's Girls equalled what Westlake achieved by 3-Peating as Class Champions. The War Eagles had to work for it during Saturday's Finals as Caitie Fauts was up to the challenge doubling in the 400 and 800 meters.
Here were some of the Big Highlights from Thursday's Field Events. Danisha Jones of Thomasville was a big winner in doubling in the AA Throws!
The competition in AAAA will be quite intense as Marist attempts to defend their team title. Only 4 teams have a real chance at Podium spots and chasing Marist including upstart Baldwin, hometown fave Monroe ALB, Redan and Fayette County
Here are your 4A Girls Team Power Rankings thru 4-2. Marist looks unbeatable right now and poised to defend their title. Its a toss up right now between Redan, Monroe-Albany and Baldwin HS with Fayette County close behind.
4A will get a full day's rest between prelims and Finals, which could be fortuitous to local schools Monroe and Westover. Points out on the Field will be at a premium and all but the National Elite athletes will have to go full bore in the Track prelims just to Q' for 'Finals Saturday' This classification is clearly the 2nd strongest All-Class and it's a drag we will never see the same power squads compete against each other again.
Its quite evident after the completion of last Saturday's round of qualifiers that class AAAA is the 2nd strongest in the GHSA. 96 MileSplit National Elite standards were achieved.. If one isn't keeping an eye out for what events to watch in this class you should now once 'Performance Lists' are posted. .
Last week's AAAA Region 'Athlete's of the Week' were Catie Faust from Marist after her 2:17 800m at Region 6 and Donald Daley from Redan HS as he swept the Throws in 51-11/174-8.
Monroe-Albany showed a chink in their armour bested by crosstown rival Westover in the Region 1 meet. Marist as expected took the Region 6 title but was pushed by traditional power Redan. In a close contest at Region 5 a fresh Fayette County squad came out on top over Shaw, Carrollton and Alexander. Eagle's Landing Girls made it a Golden Eagle sweep beating Woodland-Stockbridge by 7 points.
Like their boys squad, the Lady War Eagles are 50 points heavy on distance (based on 2 athletes per event competing at Region) But still far ahead as they have great balance in the Field Events. Monroe-Albany is back on the grid after the LC Smith and Wilfred Benson Relays. Shaw HS, Fayette County and Chamblee are bunched together currently.
4A action was off the chain at the Coaches Invitational and Marist had 2 athletes that were at the top of their game in Morgan Ilse and 4A Girls overall 'AOW' Bailey Weiland as she achieved some altitude in the HJ clearing 5-11!!
