First week of action in the Nike Team Nationals Southeast Region included races from pre-season ranked boys (SE#10) and girls squads (SE#9) from Chapel Hill as both won their opening races of the season in impressive fashion, while other bubble teams made names for themselves such as South Carolina\'s Mauldin girls.
One minute, you are in a jump off for 1st place and the next minute you are relegated to 2nd place after competitor Scott Roth of Granite Bay HS was awarded a fourth attempt after officials noticed that the standards were set at different depths. The result...Roth sets a new NIN record and Jordan Scott, of Oconee HS finished in a tie with Michael Morrison of Viriginia for 2nd place.
In an event that is quieckly gaining popularity, Emily Bernhardt has staked her claim to the number one spot in the land. The weight throw is an event contested in indoor track and field. Female athletes throw the 20 lb. weight in competition and the top thrower in the United States goes to Lassiter high school. Emily leads a crew of Georgia athletes that has taken this event by storm. With five of the top throwers in the nation, Georgia is well represented by a group of fine young atheletes and at the top of this group sits one Emily Bernhardt.
In a bit of an upset, the #9 ranked North Gwinnett boys pulled off a big win over the #6 ranked boys from Lassiter at the Westover Invitational. Despite trailing at the 1 and 2 positions, North Gwinnett used great races from their 3,4 and 5 runners to hold on for the win.
Emily Reese and Emily Borsare were at it again on Saturday and this time, the young lady from McIntosh found herself on the winning end both individually as well as in the team standings, as the McIntosh girls looked most impressive at the Boling Park Invitational edging out kennesaw Mountain for the win.
