The weather did not stop 19 schools from competing at the 4th Annual Lions Showcase in SW Atlanta as some hot performances warmed up the crowd in attendance. Ryan Clark, Candace Hill, Kristn Hall and the SW DeKalb/Westlake/Rockdale/Banneker Boys relay squads stole the show with impressive early season performances in conditions less than conducive for Sprinters.
The boys track & field athletes at the Lions Showcase are guaranteed to put on a show. Just like the girl runners, the field is loaded with individual and State Championship teams. Ga.MileSplit will be onsite shooting video and stills.

Shiloh HS won their first Track title on Saturday afternoon clinching their title early behind the legs of speedy Jeremy McDuffie as he won 4 gold medals leading the Generals march to the Podium. The competition was intense for the runnerup team spot as Brookwood (41) and 3rd place Westlake (40.5) and Rockdale County were right in the mix till their last stride in the 4x400m relay. The 400 and 800m races were epic as both events came down to the wire....
Westlake fell short of winning the 6A title, but closed strong having the fastest 4x400m performance of the Georgia Olympics Finals clocking a 3:16.06
Shiloh HS is the pre-meet favorite after winning Region and getting their top scorers out of Sectionals. If they perform as they have all season the Generals could have it clinched before the 4x400m relay. Westlake looks to be a contender and Brookwood's top guns will have them near the top of the leaderboard (electronic) by Friday's end. There are no less than 5 teams with an opportunity to bust into the top 4 including Lovejoy, Grayson, Mill Creek, Rockdale County and Collins Hill.

As the head track and field coach he oversees the track and field program for both boys and girls.
AAAAAA - Westlake (via www.ghsa.net)
After a big miscue Friday evening, in which Westlake's great 4x400m 'A' squad was DQ'd for a few steps inside the lane 1 line, the Lions hung tough Saturday defending their 6A title passing a hard charging Marietta squad with 2 events left. Westlake did not win an event, but had the athletes to make the most of their scoring opportunities as a team and capitalized on them which was key. Cover pics coming Sunday!
It all comes down to Westlake and McEachern for the 6A state title and Westlake has the upper hand in both relays with multiple teams. We should have a glimpse of how things are shaping up by watching the prelims. Only the top athletes will be able to back down and coast before the finish line ..

For AAAAAA, Robert Dunning scored big for Kennesaw Mtn as he 'Tripled' sweeping the Hurdles in 14.19/38.72 and clearing 6-6 in the HJ. Shanel Burr of North Cobb swept the Hurdles events in 14.03/44.27 making her the woman to beat at Sectionals/State earning her AAAAAA Girls 'Region Athlete of the Week'
The weather was wet, windy and cold, but the competition was hot during the Girls AAAAAA Region meets. Westlake and McEachern loaded up qualifiers for Sectionals as these 2 squads are the teams to beat at State.
31 teams were scheduled to run at the 2014 Westlake Relays with many of them having top athletes. Nationally ranked sprinters and relays threw down against team powerhouses in an exciting day of running with some events that aren’t run as frequent. Images and video should be coming soon...
The Westlake Relays is the place to be Saturday as 31 teams converge into South Atlanta to do battle in a variety of Relays, Field Events and showcase Individual events. Ga.MileSplit will be onsite shooting stills and video once again. In the relay section the highlight event will be the 4x100 with Westlake battling against New Manchester as the both are under 47.5 which puts them top 15 in the nation.
McEachern's Girls are the top ranked team in the All Georgia Girls Power Rankings with Westlake, Archer, Marist and Miller Grove on the outside looking in...
Shiloh currently looks to be the top team in the All Georgia Boys Team Power Rankings.
With meets like the Fulton and gwinnett county championships being contested it comes as no surprise the great performances turned in with school pride on the line. The High Jump competition in the 6A at Georgia Olympics will be very interesting as this past week, Bailey Vitatoe of Brookwood and Joshua Hill from Newnan both cleared bars of 6-10 earning them co- 6A Boys 'AOW' honors. Also, Rashaad Pollard of Westlake is selected an overall 'AOW' after his sizzling 10.52 and 21.51 at the Fulton meet.
Shiloh has 5 athletes that are piling up points...and in the crazy web the GHSA weaves upon competition limits they are controlling 6A. It only takes 3-4 National Elite athletes to win a state title down her in Georgia unfortunately as has been proven for decades due to the archaic GHSA rules. Rockdale, Westlake and Collins Hill are packed up together after Shiloh..
McEachern and Westlake are going to have a showdown in Albany in 5 weeks....and now Marietta is a challenger to both in 6A Girls.. Grayson is a distant, but strong 4th currently.
McEachern's Girls actually have a very slim lead (as they are top heavy in the Sprints) over rivals Marietta and super speedy Westlake. What will transpire between now and Regions will prove quite interesting..stay tuned.
Its beginning to get real in 6A Boys as WEstlake and Shiloh are all tied up with 76 points, as Rockdale County is in 3rd position with powerful Mill Creek lurking a point back. North Cobb HS and Marietta are in a dead heat locked in 5th. Whose gonna bring the goods this coming April?
WOW...It couldn't be any closer in the 6A Boys Team Power Rankings..Westlake and Shiloh actually are within scoring parameters and separated by .5 of a point...6A Giant and defending champ Mill Creek is actually about 20 points behind these teams with North Gwinnett a close 4th. with Rockdale County and Peachtree Ridge lurking in the shadows...These rankings were calculated by scoring the rankings as a meet. We scored 12 deep for individuals and 12 deep for relays. For example, for individuals 1st place received 12 points for their team, on down to 1 point for 12th place.
In the infamous words of Oscar Winner Matthew McConaughay, "Alright, Alright, Alright.." McEachern is a little heavy on points in the Individual Sprints (around 20-25) keeping Westlake actually at the top of the 6A Girls Team Power Rankings. Your gonna have to be in Albany the 2nd week of May to see how this ultimately shakes out. Archer is in 3rd place thanks to their Throws and Relays with Grayson, Campbell, Marietta, Parkview and Etowah bunched together all in contention for GHSA Team Awards down in Albany. These rankings were calculated by scoring the rankings as a meet. We scored 12 deep for individuals and 12 deep for relays. For example, for individuals 1st place received 12 points for their team, on down to 1 point for 12th place.
Here are the first Girls Power Rankings of the Outdoor Season for 6A Girls and it should come as no shock that Westlake and McEachern are the top 2 teams through this past Saturday. These rankings were calculated by scoring the rankings as a meet. We scored 16 deep for individuals and 16 deep for relays. For example, for individuals 1st place received 16 points for their team, on down to 1 point for 16th place.
. This meet did not disappoint as some athletes jumped right back to where they were last year. On the Girls side Westlake came into the meet wanting to prove their dominance last year will continue even with all the graduating seniors from last year. Batons flying through the air, missed exchanges in relays, and multiple falls, spills, and faceplants. But, the athletes stormed through the mishaps to make this meet incredibly fast and exciting! Video wil be loaded of many events Sunday of this exciting meet! 20 National Silver Elite Performances were achieved at the Lions Showcase!!
The 3rd annual Lion Showcase will be a competitive track meet early in the season that will allow your team to have loads of fun and run very fast against some stiff competition. Last year the Showcase was an AWESOME meet and we had great competition. If you take a look at the results you will see exactly what I am talking about!! Come join us and lets run FAST, jump/throw FAR, vault HIGH and have a FUN time together.
