So far this season, Schley County has been the top performing A Public school at each of the three meets they have run at (Mid-State Classic, Furlow Charter and Stratford). David Williams is doing a great job of leading the way for the team that has about a 2 min 1-5 spread.

Strong early season runs by Brandon Martin and JJ Morris put the team into the second spot this week. The team finished in 7th place at the War Eagle Invitational with a 2:21 spread.

A tie for first with Westminster Christian at the GMC Small School Showcase showed the strength of this year’s team. A team average of 19:51 on the Challenging GMC course showed their early season form. Jack Miller and Kendal Clark both were in the top 5 of the race.

The surprise of the season is Towns County. Their 9 place finish at War Eagle leaps them into 4th place in this weeks’ rankings. Jenson Brown has run well this season and leads a team with a 2:21 spread.

The three time defending state champion has their work cut out for them if they want to climb to the top of the podium again. Strong runs from Ethan Toletino and Colin McCabe led them to a 3rd place finish at the GMC Small School Showcase. Their 20:13 team average needs to come down though.

Jake Lee continues to run well with a 37th place finish at the Ridge Ferry Invitational. The team though currently sits with over 3:30 for their team split. Something that will improve as the season progresses.

A new squad to the top 10, a sixth place finish at Athens Academy jumps them up. Jeremiah Fry has led the team so far this season.

Conner Gardiner led the team to an 11th place finish at the Mid-State Classic. The team split really needs to be reduced for them to emerge out of the deepest area in the classification.

Dawson Brown has led the team so far this season.

This ranking is a little deceiving, defending individual state champion Leo Lopez injured his ankle at the GMC Small Schools Showcase and was unable to finish. The severity of his injury is unknown at this point.

A Public is a wide open field this year on the boys side. With a few races in the books now, it is becoming a little easier to see what level the schools are competing at. Many schools still have not either competed in a race, or do not have results that are known. So things may change quite a bit by next week. It is no more apparent the importance of depth in Cross Country than in A Public. Many schools have a solid 1-3. But the 4-7 runners will make the major difference this year at the Area and State Championships. Others to Watch: Atkinson County, Hawkinsville, Wilcox County
