The Nike Panther Relays has emerged as one the stellar meets in the State as 35 schools are ready to leave it all out on the Track and 'Field' at Starrs Mill HS Saturday. its gonna be a long day for sure, but everyone in attendance will enjoy the intense competition as well as watch the Panther's Jumbotron for results and highlights. Thirty teams rolled onto the Starrs Mill campus Saturday morning and undeterred by the ominous weather forecasts (which 3-4 invitationals cancelled their meets) a very competitive large meet was contested with the powerful AAA St.Pius X boys winning convincingly by 22 points over bunched up Carrollton (2nd) McIntosh (3rd) The host Lady Panthers defended their turf winning the girls side by a slim 6 point margin over #2 in the 5A team power rankings Pope HS. National Silver and Ga Elite standards were set in many events over the course of the competition.
It was wet, wild and very windy this past weekend as Georgia's best survived the inclimate weather and persevered putting up some sterling Silver MileSplit National Elite Marks and Times. Click on the article header for a list.
The 5A Girls overall co- 'Athletes of the Week' both came out of the Nile Panther Relays. Noelle Parker from Whitewater HS in Fayette County. Parker heaved the Shot 46-3.5 easily making her #1 All Classes and #13 in the MileSplit National rankings. Ashlan Rosier of Lakeside Evans clocked a 12.07p and lept 18-10.75 in the Long Jump. Also added as co-overall 5A gals 'AOW' is once again Tiffany Flynn from Miller Grove as she went 14.15 in the 100h, and 39-11/19-1.25 in the horizontals!
Carrollton's Boys are closing in on Marist in 4A, and one of the major players for the Trojans is Marquis Barnes who is selected for the 4A overall Boys 'Athlete of the Week' honors. Barnes specializes in the horizontal jumps and had marks of 45-2 and 22-11 at the Nike Panther Relays last Saturday.
