2012 Coaches Invitational Produces 112 MileSplit National Elite Performances
The weather was a bit tricky, but the action on the track and infield was hot for this years' version of the Coaches Invitational held at Tech's beautiful George C. Griffin Track set against a backdrop of downtown Atlanta's skyline. There were many incredible performances leaving one to wonder what will happen come Region, Sectionals and State. Meet Director Coach Cathi Monk of Pope HS ellaborated, "What a GREAT meet yesterrday....Incredible depth in numerous events....and we are only at the mid season mark...what can some of these talented kids do by May ? 8 boys in the 100 under 11.0, 25th place in girls 1600 was under 5:30...highligthted by meet co- Girls MVP Stephanie Kurgall's (of MaClay School in north Tallahassee, Fl) 4:49, Top 17 boys were under 4:30 in 1600...with Foot Locker National All-American Josh Brickell winning in 4:16 followed by an impressive run by Grady's Zane Coburn in 4:17. McEachern boys/girls Sprint relays looked great!!! Brookwood had a very complete TEAM effort in the 4X1600, 4X800 and 4X400 incredible times... St Pius' (4X1600) squad had great win which was slightly unexpected. National Indoor champ Kendell Williams was Kendell as usual (co-Girls MVP)...nice performaces in her HJ and hurdle races. Devon WIlliams also looked great (co MVP with Brickell) Megan Clark of Coumbus cleared 12' PV, Avana Story of Woodward Academy went 42' 3 in Shot, Ogelthorpe's Maurice Green stayed consistent clearing 6' 8 in the HJ. The 2000m Steeplechase is becoming more popular with numerous teams placing their top runners in the event...RJTorres (Walton) and Victoria Coppage First Presbyterian took 1st in the Boys and Girls Steeple.
