Weekly Review: Two Very Competitive Meets Draw Top Athletes

Boys Navy race at North Georgia was a loaded field

This week put most of the focus on two main meets, the Bob Blastow Invitational and the North Georgia Championships. Both meets featured several teams who will not only be fighting for trophies at the state meet, but could also come away as team champions as well. We usually get that at our early season meets, so it's worth diving into each of them and seeing what happened.

At the Bob Blastow meet, the top teams are split among the two races. But Carrollton looked very dominant on the boys side in the first race and Lakeside looked pretty strong yet again in the 2nd race. Both teams have a "3 headed monster" leading the way as Carrollton went 1-2-4 and Lakeside went 1-2-7 as Drew Woznicki and Khoi Nguyen got the wins, both in a sub 16:00 time. Camp Jennings and Isaac Moore looked strong in 2nd place in each race as well. It wouldn't surprise me if either team won a state title in November, but Carrollton has a much tougher road in 7A, as you'll soon see. On the girls side things were much more competitive in the 2nd race as Milton got the narrow win over Pace Academy. Pace had the better from runner as Georgia Storms was 3rd overall, but Milton had the tighter pack which ended up making the difference in the end. Pace Academy will be very competitive for the team win in class 2-4A private, but Milton will have their hands full in class 6A as the 3rd place team Midtown should also be competitive for the team title, meaning the top 3 schools in this meet are all looking at the podium or better come November.
