Gwinnett County Boys Track Preview

 Boys Field Events

 Pole Vault-Justin Grose of Brookwood is the leading vaulter at 14’1” with Jordan Funk of Parkview close behind at 14’. Mason Sheats of Mill Creek is at 13’. Tricky event that is hard to predict.

 Shot-Kimani McCoy of Berkmar is the leader here at 51’1” followed by Mill Creeks’ Trevor Joyce at 50’5” and Tyler Cierski over 48’.

 Discus- Cierski is the clear leader at over 160’ with Cameron Lynch of Brookwood at 147’ and  Kristofer Sims of Berkmar at 140’. This technique event, like the pole vault can be full of surprises.


 Long jump- Norcross is the clear favorite in this event with Malcolm Davis at 23’3” and Kj Lightbourne   at 21’11”. Micah Reed of Parkview is at 21’ 5”.


Triple jump- A wide open event with Alec McGehee of Duluth the leader at 44’1”.


High Jump- Malcolm Davis of Norcross is the front runner at 6’8”, followed by Eliot Abraham of Parkview at 6’6” with Bailey Vitatoe of Brookwood and Macky McLee of Mill Creek at 6’4”. Another tricky technique event full of surprises.


Norcross should emerge as the leader after the first day’s field events with Brookwood, Parkview and Mill Creek within striking distance.

4 x 100- Grayson is 2nd in the State at 41.81 run at Ga. Tech with Peachtree Ridge and Collins Hill giving chase at 42.1 and 42.3. With handoffs, one of the least predictable running events.


1600- Brookwood’s duo of Jackson Wearn and Sean Brennan at 4:13.9 (relay split) and 4:20 are clear favorites with Josh Brickell  contending at 4:27.


400- Josh James of Meadowcreek has the top time of 49.20 so far. Nino Mole of Parkview has run 49.71. Kevin Gary and Mark Watts of South Gwinnett should be in the hunt for this title.


100- Micah Reed of Parkview at 10.71 is the favorite followed by Devonte Lewis of Mill Creek and Eric Brown of Parkview, both in the 10.8’s.


110 hurdles- Paul Beaty has run the county’s best time of 14.61 so far. Kj Lightbourne of Norcross, Justin Shackleford of Berkmar and William Smith of Brookwood have all run in the 14.8’s and should contend.


800- Brookwood is a favorite in this race with Jackson Wearn (1:55.9 split) and Kisean Smith (1:59.8 split). Matthew Walcott of Grayson has run 2:02.5.


200- Micah Reed and Eric Brown of Parkview and Joe Horn of Peachtree Ridge and Kevin Gary of South Gwinnett, are all under 22.25. One of the meets’ most competitive races.


300 Hurdles- Kj Lightbourne has run 38.63. Justin Shackleford of Berkmar and William Smith of Brookwood have also broken 40 seconds.


3200- Austin Boetje of Mill Creek has run 9:26.  Michael Giuliano and Sean Brennan from Brookwood have both run in the 9:30’s, as has Josh Brickell of Peachtree Ridge. Andy Gonzales of Collins Hill has run 9:41. These 5 are the early favorites in one of the county meets’ most competitive races.


4 x 400- South Gwinnett has run 3:19.29 and is a heavy favorite. Only North Gwinnett has broken 3:25 among the other contenders.

Overview: Brookwood is probably the favorite with its’ distance athletes and hurdlers with a few strong field events. Parkview, Mill Creek and Norcross may be close. All 4 teams have strong events and very weak ones. The winner may be the team whose athletes in the weaker events make the final and score points in the 6, 7 and 8 positions.

 

Gwinnett County Girls Preview

 

PV- Caroline Bond of GAC leads at 11’, followed byTaylor Pullen of North Gwinnett at 10’ and Megan Kellar of Collins Hill at 9’.

 

Shot- Danielle Moss of GAC leads at 38’. Anna Machovec of Dacula has thrown over 37’LaBre McKay of Meadowcreek is over 35’. No one else in the county is in the State top 50. A Pretty wide open event.

 

Discus-Chandler Griffin at 116’ and Chinenyenwa Okoye at 115’, both from Mill Creek head this event and both are in the State’s top 12, along with Anna Machovec of Dacula at 116’.

 

Long jump- Indiah Bell of Parkview has jumped 18’5” and is ranked #2 in the State. Parkview’s Alexis Jones-Hardy has jumped 17’3”. Potentially a big event for Parkview.

 

Triple jump-Indiah Bell is the leader here, too with 36’. Shoiban Fraser of Peachtree Ridge is 2nd at 34’5”.

 

High jump- Shoiban Fraser of Peachtree Ridge leads the high jump at 5’4”. Kendra Purifoye of Peachtree Ridge, Beverly Egolum of Collins Hill and Rebecca Shane of Parkview have all cleared 5’. One of a meet’s more unpredictable events.

 

4 x 100- Grayson at 48.52 has the states 7th best time but is followed closely by Parkview at 48.86 and Peachtree Ridge at 48.98, all competitive times. Should be one of the meet’s more exciting events.

 

1600- Caroline Kissel of Brookwood is a clear favorite here at 5:10.9. Teammate QuanDra Shands has run under 5:20 in a relay split. Lauren Kelly of Peachtree Ridge has run 5:22 and Vicky Winslow of Collins Hill has run 5:23.

 

400- Sonikqua Walters of Peachtree Ridge has the State’s 2nd best time at 55.9 and is a clear favorite. Jacqueline Obi of Grayson at 58.1 and Darielle Oliver of Parkview at 58.9 may battle for 2nd.

 

100-Maya Thomas of Duluth at 12.14 is ranked 7th in the State but is followed closely by Jasmine Adams of Grayson at 12.16 and Alexis Jones-Hardy at 12.26. Should be very close for a county championship.

 

100 Hurdles- Autumn Burnette of Peachtree Ridge has run 14.63 and is a clear favorite. Alexis Jones-Hardy has run 15.32 and Beverly Egolum of Collins Hill is in at 15.62. They are a clear top 3.

 

800- Sydney Williams of Collins Hill is the favorite and QuanDra Shanks of Brookwood has run under 2:20 in a relay split. Victoria Gilbert should contend at 2:26 and Julianne Kurke of Parkview has run 2:28.

 

200- Sonikqua Walters of Peachtree Ridge has the state’s 3rd best time of 24.56 and is the clear favorite. Jasmine Abrams and Jacqueline Obi of Grayson at 25.19 and 25.30 should contend.

 

300 hurdles- Autumn Burnette of Peachtree Ridge is a clear favorite in this hurdles race, too at 45.21. Claire Cashin of Brookwood may contend for a medal at 47.17, followed by Adreanna Jefferson of Parkview at 48.39.

 

3200- Brookwood is a favorite in this distance race, too with Caroline Kissel at 11:24. Laura Beth Hooper of Norcross has run 11:36 and Lauren Kelly of Peachtree Ridge has run 11:41.

 

4 x 400- Collins Hill’s time of 4:03.55 heads this relay followed by Peachtree Ridge at 4:06 and Parkview and Duluth at 4:09.

 

Overall- the race should be pretty close coming out of field events between Parkview, Peachtree Ridge, Collins Hill and Mill Creek. Peachtree Ridge may win as many as 4 of the running events but Parkview has more depth and should win the County meet.
