Senior spotlight is an attempt to let athletes tell as much of their own story as we can. We want to take a look into some of the things that make them tick. If you are a senior who is ranked in the top 10 in Georgia this year in your event and want to be featured, send an email to milesplitga@gmail.com
What are your high school PR's so far?
What are your college plans, if you have them figured out?
What's your most memorable race or race you're most proud of?
What has been your biggest challenge in high school or what has been the hardest obstacle to overcome?
What is your typical warm up routine and/or weight room routine like?
Usually I get a lap or two depending on how in shape I am, then I go through dynamics followed by hurdle mobility / activation drills & some explosive strides to finish up, then I just stay warm until I race!
What do you think is the biggest part of training that has helped you achieve success?
Simply consistency, hard work, and drive to want to be the best! This past year though it has been the weight room, getting stronger, and naturally quicker/faster. (I was previously just very strong in terms of speed endurance which yielded great times for how old I was)
What is your all time favorite workout?
What is your least favorite or hardest workout?
Who do you have to thank for your success?
Firstly, my coach David Petty, who saw something in me that nobody else, except for me, saw from the jump. Then my Head Coach, Adam Daigler, & Distance Coach, Michael Johnson, for always supporting me and holding me to a high standard over the years! Finally, my parents who support me from behind the scenes!
Who do you look up to the most in your event?
What gets you pumped up for a training session or race?
What is your favorite food and/or movie and/or TV show and/or song?
What will you miss the most about high school?
Just being able to compete at this level, which doesn't have too much pressure, yet still holding myself to a very high standard! I'm gonna miss the funny, unserious teammates at times too who are just great entertainment at practice.
What advice would you give your younger self?
To not put any limit on what I thought I could achieve. The mind's the strongest limitation & if you want it as bad as you want to breathe & work like it, then anything is possible, you will succeed, and if you don't reach your target you'll still fall short somewhere great!
