Now that March is over, basically everybody has had a chance to put forth their best effort at some point and the team rankings are starting to really take shape. We've got a pretty good idea of what everybody has when they're at their best. But not everybody gets to put forth a PR effort at the state meet. Injuries and illness happen. People get knocked out along the way. And also sometimes a highly ranked individual chooses to focus on other events at the state meet. So these will be skewed for one or all of those reasons. But they still give us a very good idea of where things stand as we head towards spring break before we start the championships part of our season.
Of course, the biggest wild card here is the fact that the state meet is only one day for each classification. That will definitely cause some changes from these rankings. Teams that are scoring very highly in both individual events and similar relays might not be able to do so in the long run. I am personally very curious to see how that affects the outcome of things. That's why depth might matter more this year than ever before.
So for these team rankings, I've scored all the way through 20 athletes instead of the usual 8 so that we get an idea of the depth that each team is looking at. These team rankings are based on the current Milesplit individual rankings as of April 1st, 2026.
