Notes from the meet by Coach Jayaraj:

In the Boys PUMA Mile on Sunday afternoon at Vanderbilt University,  four Georgia boys rolled to new PRs in the Mile.  With newly minted Connor Burns in the field (3:58 Mile PR on Wednesday), the excitement in the crowd could be felt.

Junior Rocky Hansen of NC broke away on the 3rd lap, and at 1009 meters was looking to solo Sub 4.  He ended up in 4:03.99 for the comfortable win.  Look for him to break 4 his Senior Year.

Seven runners hit the bell between 3:06 to 3:09 including Matthew Fernando (Westminster), Simon Schabort (Model HS), Alex Arrambide (East Forsyth) and Joe Sapone (Holy Innocents').  Sapone used a 59.8 closer to move all the way from 7th to 3rd over the final lap.   Sapone is now the  Number 9 performer All-Time in Georgia History as he crossed the line in 4:09.64, almost catching Burns in the last 100 meters. Editor's note - the time converts to 4:08.19 which ranks Sapone 9th all time in Georgia.

Fernando used a 61.69 last lap to move up 3 spots and finish in a new PR of 4:12.35.  He also ran a PR of 1:52.00 the day before in the 800 meters.  He will be continuing his career and studying Business at UPENN this fall.  Juniors Schabort (4:12.47) and Arrambide (4:12.70) also rolled to PRs.  Future years look very bright for Georgia HS boys in the Mile as several MS stars come up (Pifer, Brodrick) in addition to the three juniors mentioned, as well as William Carlton who ran a Mile PR (4:13.52) in the B Heat after winning the 2000 Meter Steeplechase the day before.
