Athens Christian track is back on the map, sweeping the Redskin HS Invitational
On Friday night, the Athens Christian track teams went down to Social Circle for the 10 team Redskin HS Invitational. This meet featured several 5A teams like Walnut Grove; Redan, Eastside; defending 8-AAA Region Champ Monroe Area; Banks County, Greene County, Washington Wilkes, and several others. The Running Eagles won the boy's side of the meet with 151 points, having a 38 point margin of victory over runner-up Walnut Grove. The ACS girls made it a program sweep scoring 126 points winning by 16 points over Walnut Grove.
Keren Palma was Girls High Point Winner
The Lady Eagles were led by Meet high point trophy winner Keren Palma who won the 3200m and the 1600m while finishing 2nd in the 800. Kierra Simmons won the 100 and 200 and did well in the long jump as well as anchoring her relay team. Savannah Prince was the Triple Jump Champ and Abby Arnold won the 100 hurdles. Laura Grace Duncan finished in the money in the shot and the girl's team of Sarah Beth Townsend, Lydia Fortson, Abby Arnold, and Ashlyn Dilworth won the 4 x 800 relay.
Johness Davis was Boys High Point Winner
The boys were led by high point winner Johness Davis who finished 2nd in the 100, 200, Shot Put, and 3rd in the Long Jump. Other outstanding performances for the boys included: Andrew Wells - Shot Put Champ, Nathan Smith - 1600m Champ /2nd-3200m. Zack Colquitt - Pole Vault Champ, Ethan Christian High Jump winner (6 feet), and Navy Curry placed 2nd in the 400m. Team Captain Amaree Cosby finished high in the Discus. The highlight of the evening was the throwers 4x100m (labeled the Fat Man Relay by host school Social Circle. Coach Smith guided his boys - Ashton Trawick, Andrew Wells, Thomas Stevens, and JD Brown to a first-place finish as they literally made the ground shake. No points were counted, but a large box of food from the concession stand!
