Senior Salute: Nyah Hernandez of Milton HS

It is with great pleasure that I write this spotlight article on two very well-deserving seniors at Milton HS that graduate next month. With the COVID-19 virus pretty much shuttering the track season down in Georgia, this is a nice way to highlight seniors' athletes on our teams and appreciate Bruce Taylor & GA Milesplit for doing this for them.

It has been an honor to be able to work with a student-athlete like Nyah Hernandez. Already at the top as she transferred to Milton from Creekview HS in the middle of her sophomore season, Nyah overcame a family tragedy & continued to do her best and excel at her running while also navigating a much more rigorous academic schedule to become the best person she could be. Nyah worked very hard in her training and the adjustment to Milton was difficult for her in many aspects but for her to continue to succeed at a high level on both the track & the trail was inspiring to see and be a part of.

Races that stand out to me from her high school career were her runner-up finish at the Coaches Invitational to Nicole Fegans her freshman year, her dominating win her junior year at the Early Bird/Bob Blastow Invite and for me personally was her mile race at Florida Relays last year after a incredible 800m race at the Fulton County meet just days before. I couldn't be more proud of Nyah to continue her running and racing at Kennesaw State University as she follows a long line of Milton HS female distance runners that went on to run and be successful at the next level like Annie Kelly (Ole Miss & Colorado), Riley Burr (Furman) & Amy Ruiz (GA Tech). All the best to Nyah as she leaves Milton as one of the best ever to put on an Eagle uniform.
