Varsity Boys

Kamari Miller and Sully Shelton lead with Noah Hayes drafting

The Varsity Boys race went out pretty conservatively allowing a large pack to run together for the first mile. The leaders then broke away into a pack of 4 including Sully Shelton of Harrison, Kamari Miller of Marietta, Noah Hayes of Hillgrove and Cole Heron for the next 1.5 miles.

Shelton made a move near 2.5 miles stretching out the lead pack. When they were seen again there were 20m gaps between each other. Shelton went on to break the course record that previously held by Kenan Farmer. of Walton clocking a 15:29.18 The Hoyas won the team title having an incredible race as their team avarage time was :30 faster than the 2018 meet.

Hayes of Hillgrove held on to 2nd place posting a 15:41, Cole Heron of Pope closed hard seizing 3rd overall at 15:45 and Miller cruised in for 4th place in 15:59 leading the Blue Devils to a runnerup team finish. Connor Old rounded out the top 5 individuals posting a 16:09 sparking Walton to 3rd as a team.

Varsity Girls

Varsity Girls bunched up tight early

In the Varsity Girls race Grace Ellsworth of Hillgrove pulled away at the 1 mile mark. In a chase pack was Riley Perlakowski of Harrison, Sarah Burwell of Walton and frosh Charlotte Dunn of Pope who ran together for a while. After several surge attempts by Perlakowski, she was able to pull away from Burwell.

Ellsworth captured the Overall title in a time of 18:57 after finishing runner-up the past three seasons. Hillgrove's depth was too much for the field as their top 5 all placed in the first 12 finishers taking the team title. Perlakowski hung on 2nd going 19:15 leading the Hoyas to a runnerup team finish. Burwell took 3rd place going 19:19 followed by Dunn in 4th at 19:12 and June Mwanike placed 5th at 19:32 leading Marietta to 3rd in the team standings.
