Brady Sigler Q and A

Coach Billy Henderson and Brady Sigler.

When did you first become interested in Track and Field?

In junior high(1964), I competed in the Presidential Physical Fitness test and won the 600 yard run.

Did you ever compete in Track scholastically, and if so where?

Yes, Coral Gables High School in South Florida

What are your favorite memories from competing in Track and did you win any honors?

Running in the Florida Relays and my best honor was being team captain.

When did you decide to be a Track and Field coach?

I worked at Mercer University in the mid 1970's as the Assistant Athletic Director.  The school decided to move to Division I and needed to add some sports. So I volunteered to be the track coach.

Tell me everywhere you have coached and for how long?

Columbia High School 6 years, Clarke Central 2 years, Madison County High School 4 years, Elbert County, 9 years, Washington-Wilkes High School 3 years, Greene Co. 3 years, Oconee Co. 1 year, Cedar Shoals 2 years, North Oconee 4 years, East Jackson 1 year and now at Jefferson High School.

Who has been your most profound influence in shaping your mindset and program?

Billy Henderson had to the biggest influence on me as a coach. Unfortunately Coach Henderson passed away recently. He was a great man! The track coach I learned the most from is Napolean Cobb.

Have you coached any other Sports besides Track?

Football more than track.  I was only the head track coach 16 years.. Several years when I was a head football coach or came to a school that already had a track coach, I just coached football. I have been fortunate enough to coach in 5 state championship football games.

If possible, what has been your best moment/memory as a Coach?

Watching my son win the state championship in the 800 meters. Also watching my daughter when she competed. She was very competitive before a series of injuries.

What are your favorite events to coach?

Hurdles and jumps, I have coached every event except the pole vault.

Do you have any specific Goals for your team this Outdoor season?

Nothing specific but what I would like to see is a continual development to a championship culture.

How much has Track changed since the advent of GATFXC.com and now MileSplit GA?

In the 1980's and 90's I would call every region meet director to get their results then I would try to figure out who would be in what heat at state.  Now, meet results are readily available. It is also a great way to communicate with other coaches.

What changes would you like to be made in the future for Georgia HS Track and Field?

I would like to see the GHSA allow more opportunities for our athletes to compete out of state.  I would also like to see the 4 x 800 meter relay added to the state meet.

If you could turn the clock back, would you do anything differently?

I don't think so. Looking back, I have been very fortunate to coach at the places that I have.  I have become friends with a lot of great people: Tomy Sitton, Jerry Arnold, Ted Smith, Napolean Cobb,Ken Hutto, Kendra Houghton, Tim Cummings, Rik Moore. Too many to name!
