Hot Racing and Temps Expected at MS State XC Championships in Bleckley County

This will be the 11th version of the Georgia Middle School State Cross Country Championships hosted by Bleckley County HS. The meet began back in 2006/2007 with a modest beginning including 120 runners, maybe 8-9 schools and just 2 races...It has come a long way since, as this season with attendance of 5000 or more, including 2200 runners registered, including 95 schools, and now 12 races with a separate gender JV race for each class. There is also a Fall Festival going on all day downtown a couple miles which is worth checking out after the races. Races began at 8am with the Elementary Mile. Expect higher than average temps for Mid-October (mid/high 80's) as its been brutal all month, after a relatively mild August thru mid September.

Divisions:

Small school: If your middle school feeds into a 1A or 2A high school.

Medium school: If your middle school feeds into a 3A or 4A high school.

Course Revisions:

The course is till a 2 Mile layout, but has been modified, to run more behind the school, in the woods and back towards the HS. The start and finish areas will remain where they have been for years.

Boys Races:

The Middle school races this year are more wide open (especially for Individuals) as there is no Zack Truitt or Justin Wachtel in the field for 2017. (both of whom are enjoying stellar XC seasons in the GHSA this Fall. Teamwise,  expect past champions to do well again and make the Podium. The top Boys this Fall in the primary MS distances are listed below:

Girls Races: very similiar to Boys with Makena Gates and Nyah Hernandez now forming the potent 1-2 punch in the state for Creekview HS. The girls teams likely to be vying for titles will be much like the Boys squads.
