Lauren Chambers Interview

1- gatfxc-  Lauren, congratulations on winning the NIN Indoor title in the Weight Throw. Tell us about your outstanding meet.
Lauren-   Thank you,  Well the meet didn’t go as I had planned I didn’t throw as far as I wanted.  I was trying to break the national record and that didn’t happen but I threw ok, my main goal was to just win a national indoor meet in the weight,  because I had been trying to win nationals in the weight throw for a long time and I finally did it.

2-gatfxc-  Describe what it felt like to compete against the highest level of HS competition on such a grand stage at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston .
Lauren-To compete with the best high school girls in the country is awesome, you get to see and throw with people I have watched over the season and to finally throw with them and against is a real rush!

3-gatfxc-  I noticed that Throw1deep also competed at NSIC at the Armory in New York City, but you Fouled Out in the Weight Throw from the results. What happened?
Lauren- Throw 1 Deep competes all over the place. I did foul out because I just could not put my nerves aside; I was going for a double national win and I wanted it so bad along with the national record,  I fouled my first 2 and on my third one my nerves got the best of me and I just messed up and didn’t get one in sector.  I am sad about it but I just guess it was not my meet to win and I am ok with that, I had a great time this indoor season and got the chance to do some things that very few high school girls get to do.

4-gatfxc-  Did you get to visit/sightsee while in New York or Boston , and if so, where did you all go?
Lauren- I didn’t get to do much sightseeing in either place because I went up to Boston for one day and then drove back to New York the same day, when I go to the meets I am usually very focused on the meets and usually leave immediately after competing. However, I was up in New York in February and I did do some sightseeing then, I went to ground zero; that was sad but good to see.

5-gatfxc- When did you first become interested in Track and Field and Throwing, and when did you realize you had the ability to be an elite Thrower?
Lauren- I was 9 years old when I started track, I started out as a runner and I was a good one.  I didn’t really like running then I found throwing and that has very little to NO running in that which I like very much.  When I realize that I had the ability to be a good thrower was after I met Mike, he told me that I would be a elite hammer and weight thrower one day and I am still working towards being elite.

6-gatfxc-  How much of being a part of Throw1deep has contributed to your success and you guys seem to be like a big family. Are you surprised at how much Davis and Nabil have improved in the Shot Put?
Lauren- Throw 1 deep has helped me in the area of giving me a social life, LOL, but yes the team is like a family when someone on the team needs something someone is there to help. Yes I was surprised at how much those guys have done in the shot put, they are both awesome weight throwers to and they will be some great hammer throwers.  I am excited to see how well they will both do in the outdoor season, both Nabil and Davis are great guys and teammates.

7-gatfxc-  Do you have any specific goals for the 2009 Outdoor season including Summer Track?
