Meet of Champions Distance previews (by Brian Robinson)

Boys 800- There are two heats in the both the boys and girls 800. The fast heat in the boy's race has seed times between 1:51.66-1:54.50. The boys 800 will feature Devin Dixon of Eagles Landing HS. He won't have to run any prelims or 400 meter races before he runs the 800 and he will have the benefit of a teammate rabbiting the race for him. His goal is to chase the all-time state best of 1:49.61 held by O'neal Wanliss of Holy Innocents. He will have company led by Ryne Bevin of North Paulding with a PR of 1:52.95. Jonathan Schwind of Lambert is stepping down and comes in with a PR of 1:53.29. The 800 will feature state champions from 1A-private, 1A public, 3A, 4A, 5A and 6A 1600

The boys 1600 will a have field with PR's ranging from 4:16.41-4:26.32. The top seed is Kaleb Wolfenden of Lowdnes, followed by freshman sensation Jonathan Myrthil of Northside Columbus, Chase Kennedy of East Jackson and Grant O'Callahan of Flowery Branch. 3200

The boys 3200 looks to be the deepest 3200 meter field ever assembled in Georgia. Jake Shewbert comes in with the best time of 9:02.94. He is fresh off his double at the State Championships last week where he looked smooth and has sub 9 in him. He will be challenged by a plethora of talented runners. Frank Pittman of Marist has a PR of 9:10, but with 4:08 solo 1600 speed. Frank looked like he was doing a tempo run during the 3200 at Jefferson last Friday night. Andrew Kent is no dark horse, he pulled a double in the 16/32 and has a flare for the dramatic. His 3200 meter win was by 3 one hundreds of a second. Allen Clark of Lakeside, Evans, David Savic of Marietta, Chase Kennedy of East Jackson, Sam Costa of Mill Creek, Jacob Mcleod of Trinity Christian all have PR's under 9:20. They will be chased by five more runners with PR's ranging from 9:20-9:26. One side race in the 3200 will feature two outstanding freshmen. Chase Condra of Peachtree Ridge and Lief Anderson of Marist. These two rank 4th and 8th in the nation for freshmen with Prs of 9:22 and 9:26.

Girls preview

800- This race is going to be a barn burner. You have the deepest field that Georgia has ever seen. It took 2:15.71 to even make the fast heat. This race will feature the top two runners in the state. Anna Marian Block of Athens Academy and Riley Burr of Milton. They have PR's that separated by 3 one hundreds of a second 2:10.57 and 2:10.60. These two will be chasing the All-Time best of 2:08.58 held by Brittany Hall. If one of these two was to slip and not be on their A game then watch out for freshmen sensation Emoni Coleman of Tucker who has a PR of 2:11.44. The rest of the field is rounded out by Mackenzie Ellison of Brookwood, 2:12.94, Leah Fisher another freshmen from Parkview, 2:13.57, Daryn Petitt of Richmond Hill, 2:14.46, Brynne Sumner of Woodstock, 2:15.61, Brenda Ayuk of Alexander, 2:15.70 and Betty Jackson of Eagles Landing, 2:15.71.

1600- The girls 1600 will have 12 runners with PR's ranging from 5:00 to 5:17. The top seed is Nicole Fegans of Landmark Christian. She will be joined by Mary Claire Solomon of Blessed Trinity, Sophia West of Paidia, Josie Wirtz of Marist and Kira Stanley of Harrison. All of these ladies have run under 5:10 this year.

3200- The girls 3200 has 6 young ladies with sub 11 PR's. Leading the way is Savannah Carnahan of South Forsyth with a 10:27 PR. She will be chased by Yanely Gomez of Grayson, Nicole Fegans of Landmark, Alyssa LeClaire of McIntosh, Macki Walsh of Etowah and Jenna Gearing of White County. All with times ranging from 10:39-10:57. Serena Tripodi of Lovett, Anna Hayden of Riverwood and Camryn Petit of Mill Creek all look to dip under the 11 minute mark. The dark horse of the field is Sue Ann Morales of East Jackson. Sue was 3A double state champ in the 1600 and the 800, but is stepping up in distance to run the 3200.
