Region 8-AAAA Championship Preview

REGION OF DOOM ALERT !

8-AAAA Championship Preview

Everyone in 8-AAAA has known this moment was eventually coming. In what has become a distance running hotbed, there will be several ranked teams that won't get through to Carrollton. It's going to be emotional to see some great teams with really hard working kids get left out of the dance. A wet week looks to lead into a dry and sunny Thursday with excellent racing temperatures for great breathing.

On the boys side, North Oconee and North Hall have been the class of the region for 2 years now with an emerging Johnson program knocking on the door with a possible trophy shot (top 2). Buford, White County, and Chestatee (all AAAA ranked teams) appear to be digging in for a battle for the final spot, not to say that one of these 3 couldn't sneak into the top 3. As in 2014, there will be 2 great teams staying home.

The individual race should be a good one with an on fire Gerardo Suarez of Johnson, incredibly talented Thomas Moore of North Oconee, and possibly the region's most improved runner from last season in Corson Teasley of North Hall. Tommy Johnston (NH), Isaac Hernandez (JHS), Andone Mendoza (Buford), and Potts/Sigler (NO) will also give it a go as an impressive lead pack.

On the girls side, White County and North Oconee look to be out front in a very tight region title race and will both try to hold off a tight North Hall pack, an on fire Johnson girls squad, a Buford team with 2 great front runners, and a Chestatee squad with dangerous potential. Do the math and unfortunately, that's 6 teams for 4 spots.

The girls individual race has White County Senior Jenna Gearing favored to win her final Region title, with solid challenges from teammate Jaelen Alexander, Lauryn Davidson and Sarah Davis of Buford, Mackenzie Morse of North Oconee, and Mattie Bohanan of North Hall.
