Marist Defends Their Title Scoring 96 Points
Redan began the day winning the 4x100m relay in 47.90, Shaw placed 2nd and Fayette got 6 points finishing 3rd. Then in the next event, Promise Clark took the Gold in a mild upset clocking a 56.34 besting Shaw's Breanna Mahone at 56.88 with Mya Ford of Westside-Macon 3rd and Monroe began to pick it up as Kandice Clyde crossed in 4th,
Jahari Williams doubled in the short sprints getting the Tornadoes roaring as she took the 100m dash in the first sub 12 time of the afternoon posting a 11.94 and later added another Gold equally impressive in the 200m at 24.32 Amecia Pennamon of Mary Persons grabbed the Silver in the 100m going 11.99 followed by DeAndra Greer of Woodland-Stockbridge in 12.00.
Marist got in a few more punches Saturday in the 800 meters as junior Caitie Faust was too strong for the field taking the Gold in 2:15.89 besting Woodland-Stockbridge athlete Jillian Sloane back in 2nd at 2:18 who edged Marist's Gabby Bowen at 2:19.
Chinyere Njoku made the Hurdles events her plaything as she was just too fast as she cleanly won the 100h in 14.06, then easily took the 300h event clocking the fastest time of the day so far in 43.31. Sydney Holmes of Chamblee took home the Silver in the 100h in 14.20 followed by SheQuilla McClain of Redan seized a pair of 3rds at 14.40 in the 100h and later in the 300h (45.35) adding big team points for Redan. Teamate Miyah Golden finished ahead of McClain in the 300h placing 2nd in 44.52.
The meet finale in the 4x400m relay was exciting as Monroe bolstered by the home crowd pushed ahead of Redan at the line for the win by .02 in a swift time of 3:53.22. Team Champ Marist adding a cherry on the whipped cream competing till the last step getting 3rd at 3:55.84 with Fayette County just behind in 4th.
