3A Girls State Meet Preview

                                          3A Girls State Meet Preview

On the Field is where teams will have a chance to get a leg up first and Woodward Academy and SE Bulloch look good on paper to have some success. Summer Thompson and Erica Evans of Woodward are the top 2 LJ'rs out of Sectionals and Zharia Jeffries could score big in the Throws events. Philicia Batton and Jasmine Roberts should do well in the jumps for SE Bulloch. Diamond Reese of Maynard Jackson is the top ranked SP athlete and Daimer Gordon of Cedar Grove is #1 in the Discus. Anna Hightower of Cartersville has a pr of 12-1 in the PV which is 1'7" better than Gabrielle Hoffman of North Hall. Mary Terry has the best bar coming into the HJ at 5-8 this season.

At last week's Sectionals the top girls cruised with the goal being to Q' and not get injured. In the 3200 Meter finals 7 girls will be on track with sub 12: prs, but Jenna Gearing of White County is a slight favorite with a pr of 11:26 at 7-AAA meet. Look for Blessed Trinty's Anna Gandolfo to cut a minute or more off her Sectionals time as she has a pr of 11:27. Frosh Audrey Honiotes of Hart County has a pr of 11:35 and freshman girls have done well in the distance races in past history in the smaller classes. Friday's 1600 finals 3 girls could be in the lead pack including Gandolfo, Honiotes and Gearing.

Competition will be at a premium in the prelims with the big 3 out of Region 6 needing to get their best athletes into the Finals round. Maynard Jackson has the top 4x100m time at 48.36, but the 4x400 could be a train wreck leaving some broken hearts out on the track as 6-AAA squads Pius, BT, Wood and Decatur having prs within a couple seconds of each other starting at 4:02.65 (St.Pius X)

Top individuals on the track will be Kendsey Chappelear of Franklin in the 400/200, Keondria Simmons from Peach County (100m) and Bree Teasley of Franklin in the 100/200m, Dominique Sullivan from Decatur in the 100h, Bailey Willett of BT in the 800m w/ a pr of 2:14, Erin Marsh of Buford and Erica Evans of Woodward in the 300h
