Jags Ready For Southeast Regional

GRU Augusta heads back to McAlpine Creek Park for third time this year

 

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Currently sitting at No. 2 in the United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association’s Southeast Region, the GRU Augusta Men’s Cross Country team, along with the Jaguar women, are ready for the NCAA Southeast Regionals on Nov. 9 at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte, N.C.

 

The women’s 6K begins at 10:30 a.m. and a men’s 10K starts at 11:30 a.m. at McAlpine Creek Park – a place where the Jags raced twice already this year, first at the Charlotte Invitational on Sept. 28 and the last on Oct. 11 for the Royals Cross Country Challenge.

 

The GRU men finished 14th at the Charlotte Invite, behind by senior Jaiden Brandt’s fifth-place finish in 25:18.2. Senior Dustin Ross took 20th in 25:42.8, senior Shane Huckeba crossed at 26:39.7 for 61st and freshman Nick Del Guercio notched 63rd in 26:39.7. Senior Matt Johnson came in with a time of 27:18.4 for 98th, freshman Caleb Watson took 140th in 28:13.8 and Adam Aldridge rounded out the Jags at 146th in 28:24.2. At the Royals Cross Country Challenge, Brandt took third overall out of the 228-man field in 25:05.4, while freshman Nick Del Guercio took 18th in 25:59.6 and senior Shane Huckeba 24th in 26:11.3 to round out the top 25 for GRU. The three leading Jaguar men improved their times from the Charlotte Invitational.

 

At the Charlotte Invitational, the Jaguar women were led by freshman Leah Rife (22:51.7) who finished 51st just ahead of GRU junior Jessica Carpenter (22:52.1) in 52nd. Freshman Jordan Humphrey placed 61st in 23:03.6, freshman Rachel Garabedian took 83rd in 23:24.6, and Olivia Rodriguez (24:47.7) and Tia Ponsell (27.58.2) took 135th and 184th. In the women's 6K at the Royals Cross Country Challenge, freshman Leah Rife paced GRU Augusta in 18:46.1 for 38th. Freshmen Jordan Humphrey and (19:07.7) and Rachel Garabedian (19:18.7) took 55th and 68th and junior Jessica Carpenter notched 88th in 19:37.7.
